Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

Nice kitchen, how much did you pay for it overall?

Well, the sink would not be my choice either... and stainless steel on top of that, wow, I’m glad I don’t have that anymore. Do you think it will still look good after a long time? Or is this more of a "show" kitchen?
Overall, the kitchen looks nice. Is that round "lamp" supposed to be the extractor hood? Do those work well?
The combination of tile and wood flooring also looks good.

We have the "budget" version of this type of sink from IKEA. We deliberately chose not to use drain racks because they look unattractive and take up valuable countertop space. We don’t wash anything by hand—that’s what the dishwasher is for. Large items that do need to be cleaned by hand are simply dried afterward.

Thanks to the size of these sinks, it is possible to hang a drain insert if someone really needs one. At least with IKEA, this accessory is available.

What is wrong with stainless steel? It works perfectly well and is durable. What would be a sensible alternative?

@Alex85: My opinion!

@bortel: What exactly is a show kitchen?
The extractor hood works quite well. But actually, I rarely use it. I guess it depends on our diet. After about 30 minutes, you can’t smell anything anymore, even with an open-plan living area, thanks to the controlled ventilation system.

@Karlstraße: Phew, I’d estimate around 10,000€.

Well, a kitchen where cooking is done less often... I didn’t want stainless steel anymore because after some time it doesn’t look as nice and requires more maintenance, right? We are choosing one made of ceramic.

Hmm.. not sure. I’ve always had stainless steel and wanted stainless steel again. I’m not really a fan of ceramic. If the sink has to be perfectly clean all the time, stainless steel might not be the best choice. I clean the sink maybe twice a week with vinegar cleaner, and that’s enough. I think the fact that our water is softened definitely plays a role. Nothing really sticks quickly.

We do cook a lot, probably more often than average.
