Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my new kitchen using the Ikea Metod system and was wondering if anyone has experience with special tools that can significantly simplify the assembly process. There are various tools and accessories that are not included by default but are recommended by users, such as specific screwdriver bits or installation aids for the often tricky adjustable hinges and connectors.

I am especially interested in which tools actually help, where it is best to invest, and which have proven particularly worthwhile for the Metod system. Does anyone have tips or a list of tools that are not necessarily part of the standard kit but make assembly easier or save time?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I would definitely recommend a cordless drill with a good Torx bit. The Metod screws are usually Torx, which saves a lot of time compared to a regular screwdriver. Otherwise, the standard IKEA tools are generally sufficient.

Interesting question. However, I always question the necessity of so-called specialized tools. Many of these tools seem to be designed to make handling easier for amateurs, but they can quickly outweigh the cost-benefit factor. As I said, a good cordless drill with the right attachments might be sufficient. What exactly is the biggest challenge during assembly that requires additional tools?

That makes sense – I haven’t specifically paid attention to Torx bits before; I usually use standard Phillips bits.

For me, it’s mainly the connectors that are often very tight and difficult to install in the correct alignment. Also, the adjustable hinges, where I find it hard to precisely turn the right screw with the supplied tool without slipping. I have already worried about causing damage there.

Are there any special attachments or tools that can help with this? What about assembly templates or guide aids that Ikea itself or third-party manufacturers offer?

I can share some practical experience, as I have assembled an Ikea Metod kitchen myself.

1. Torx bits: Make sure to use good quality ones! Cheap bits wear out quickly and round off Torx screws.
2. Cordless drill with adjustable torque control: Very useful for securely fastening connectors without over-tightening.
3. Right-angle screwdrivers or short driver bits: Some spots in the Metod system are tight, so short bits or angle attachments are very handy.
4. Installation templates: Ikea offers official guides, especially for correctly positioning the hinges. Alternatively, there are third-party manufacturers providing precise templates that make installation easier.

My advice: If you assemble furniture frequently, it’s worth investing in high-quality Torx bits and a cordless drill with adjustable torque. Additionally, a bit box designed specifically for furniture assembly can significantly save time during installation.

Common mistake: Many apply too much force when working on hinges, causing screws to strip or the material to get damaged. The key here is a delicate touch and using the right tools.

Great to see so many helpful tips coming in here!

I recently assembled my Metod kitchen myself and can definitely confirm that a good cordless drill with the right bits is a real game changer!

Also, here’s a small piece of advice: take your time and don’t try to do everything in one go. Especially adjusting the hinges with the special tools requires patience and precise work. If you keep that in mind, everything goes quite smoothly and can even be enjoyable!
