Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Since I only like furniture for a limited time, I don’t spend much money on it. I prefer to get something new more often. My dad had a solid wood cabinet custom-made by a carpenter 30 years ago for 8000 DM; now it’s standing in a way-too-small apartment and looks out of place. But he says it was so expensive, he can’t part with it. Oh, and by now he admits the cabinet just looks ugly.

But the table looks smooth, and I think the chairs are okay. Why they cost 400 euros (about $430) now? No idea, they could just as well be Ikea chairs for 50 euros (about $54) each.

I really like your taste. Great lamps, a wonderful table, and the chairs as well — overall, your furnishings are top-notch, and when money is no issue, many things are possible.

However, what I don't like at all and what, in my opinion, doesn’t fit at all is the completely oversized thick countertop in the kitchen.

Keyword window vacuum:

@Solveigh: Used it today; at 90% humidity in the morning, it was a dream on the large glass panels. Much faster than with countless cloths and towels.
Additional benefit: The condensation on the unfinished precast concrete ceiling elements could also be easily and quickly vacuumed overhead.

Thanks again for the inspiration!

@dab_dab That's exactly what this forum is for

@Climbee Everything turned out beautifully. The only issue is that the wonderful Occhios get overshadowed by the large dining room lights below. We plan to combine the Mitos (dining) with the Mito Volo (kitchen), and I'm already worried they’ll compete for attention.

Some of you might want to throw stones at me for this, but I have a different opinion.
@Climbee You all have highly qualitative designer one-offs that look great individually. However, overall, I don’t see a clear concept, consistent style, or unified theme. The result simply lacks impact. Probably too many highlights that don’t work well together. Considering the many thousands of Euros invested in the open-plan space, spending a bit more on an interior designer would likely have been money well spent.
Of course, taste is simply a matter of personal preference.

I’m always impressed by the photos from @Climbee; they could easily be used for a catalog. However, I can hardly imagine living there – but I also have two lively children. And of course, not everything suits my taste… or my budget. When I see the "marks" my two little ladies leave behind, I would never spend that much money on furniture or decor, even if I could.

But I’m happy for @Climbee anytime – after all, it’s her personal DINK dream home!
