Hello,

I am currently assembling my kitchen. At the moment, I am working on my wall cabinet with a glass door. I have the problem that I need to attach the glass door in a spot where there is no frame—only glass.

Does IKEA offer a wrong combination (Avsik and Faktum wall cabinet) or am I doing something wrong?

Thank you very much,
Charly

Hello blueSpirit,

From what I can see in your photo, it looks like it should be correct. Take a look at position 17 in the instructions for the Faktum wall cabinet. It shows the fitting (which still needs to be screwed together) that is attached to the metal frame of the door. In position 20, you can clearly see that the outer part of this fitting is fixed to the frame, while the inner part (the one where you attach the counterpart of this hinge) slightly extends into the panel and fits exactly with the hinge.

I assembled the same cabinet just yesterday, but I haven't attached the doors yet because I realized I don’t have a 2.5mm (0.1 inch) drill bit. I find it quite annoying that you have to drill the holes yourself for fixing it. Hopefully I can manage it on the smooth metal surface. Also, I wasn’t aware that handles are not included with the cabinet. So I’ll have to make another trip to IKEA.

I do have one more question: When the time comes, could you tell me at what height you hung the horizontal cabinet? (Distance from the countertop to the bottom edge of the cabinet). I’m quite unsure about this because, as far as I understand, you don’t hang these horizontal cabinets as high as “normal” classic wall cabinets.

One more note:

I just noticed on your photo that you have the wrong drilling template and the wrong page of the instructions is open.

Since this is about the Avsikt door, you need to use the Avsikt drilling template, which is much narrower than the Faktum drilling template you are holding against the door frame in the photo. Both templates are included with the cabinet.

In the instruction photo you posted, you can see how the Rubrik door is attached. You need to turn one page further, because that is where the assembly instructions for the Avsikt door are, which work slightly differently.

Best regards,

Hello Stina,

thank you very much for your reply. We’re getting closer to the solution – I guess I don’t have the wrong door, but the wrong cabinet: I only received one drilling template, and apart from a "wooden door" and this category door, my instructions don’t include anything else.

Regarding item 17:

And here is a list from pages 18 (wooden door), 19 (category door), and 20, attaching the wooden door – so no Avsik:

About the height: I would have intuitively mounted mine higher than the "standard" wall cabinets, which hang at 50cm (20 inches) height in my place. It makes sense for me to use the door height at the top... so mine will have a clearance between 60 and 65cm (24 and 26 inches). Whether it looks good, I can only tell you later this week.

Well, tomorrow I will take the instructions to Ikea and ask what exactly I can do.

One more question about your fitting: Mine has to hook in where it was drilled or screwed in. That means if I screw it onto the thin frame, it would directly hit the cabinet – and I wouldn’t be able to hook it into the lifting mechanism/hinge. How is this solved in your case?

Hello Stina,

just a quick question: Which Faktum cabinet do you have – the one that comes with the two drilling templates? The friendly Ikea staff member gave me this article number: 301.323.82 (Faktum 92x40cm (36x16 inches)).

Thank you,
Charly

Hello,
to clear up the confusion:

There was a bit of a mix-up with the assembly instructions at IKEA. For the Avsikt glass doors, you need a separate assembly manual that comes with the cabinet body. It also includes a drilling template labeled "Avsikt." Unfortunately, IKEA has not yet uploaded this to their online assembly instructions. Lately, a drill bit has also been included.

You probably have an "older cabinet body" for which the instructions have not yet been updated.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
