Hello everyone,
perhaps I should briefly introduce myself as a newcomer here:
male, 58 years old, “home IKEA” Duisburg.
A few weeks ago, I noticed that the birch Pax wardrobes were slowly disappearing from online ordering.
Try ordering a carcass 100 x 35 x 201 cm (39 x 14 x 79 inches) in birch. It doesn’t work.
Since I’m now starting to renew my bedroom with Pax, I didn’t like that at all.
A friendly lady at the hotline explained to me after some hesitation that IKEA has announced an internal email about a successor to Pax. The date mentioned was March 1st. However, she told me that such announcement dates usually shift by several weeks. She advised me not to start building my wardrobe wall just yet. The new Pax design will be somewhat more modern, rounded, and youthful. AND, they will not be compatible with the old carcasses. “So if you buy the 3.5 meter (11.5 ft) carcasses now, you might want to buy new doors after half a year (which I actually planned to do) and then find out that the new doors don’t fit the old carcasses.” For this sentence, I thanked her very much.
Has anyone else heard similar news? Since I think IKEA introduces these changes in Sweden first, I’m frequently checking the Swedish website, but so far there’s nothing new there either. For now, I have decided to wait.
Kind regards

Hello everyone,
I bought the Pax wardrobe in the new birch finish last Friday. The seller warned me that there is now a new birch tone, but I thought: it can't be that bad.
Unfortunately, it is very bad!
The surface is completely matte and somewhat yellowish pale. The previously sharp edges are now rounded off, somewhat like a poorly wrapped gift.
Overall, the surface looks very cheap, a bit like matte plastic. Besides, I suspect the material (you can hardly call it wood anymore) is softer than the previous model. In any case, after assembly, there was a really deep dent exactly where my laminate flooring underneath is very hard. It must have happened during hammering on the back panel.
I hope IKEA does not switch the entire birch range to this new surface. If they do, they would definitely lose me as a regular customer.
Fortunately, I chose the Drammen doors. That way, the wardrobe only bothers me when it’s open, and the dent is well hidden. Such a pity about the old birch Pax! I’m curious to hear what you think of the new color...

My confusion is now quite big.
Today, I assembled the 100x35x201 Birch cabinet. I wanted to upload photos here, but I don’t need to, because I can’t see any difference compared to the old model!
I have no rounded edges and no color difference. The only difference is the type of packaging. Previously, the back panel was split into two parts. That meant the package was about 50 cm (20 inches) wide despite being 35 cm (14 inches) deep.
Now, the back panel is split into three parts, so the package is only about 35 cm (14 inches) wide.
Maybe I don’t even have the new model?
With confused regards

anja_28306 Mar 2010 22:01Hi Ikea fans,
I used to be one as well, but since the new Pax Birch, I’m completely disappointed! I can only agree with ikeowski; the worst part is the color—yellowish, with no trace of the beautiful, warm birch finish anymore. I already have three Pax Birch wardrobes and initially thought Ikea had put together the wrong cabinets for me, but unfortunately, this is how they look now. The color also doesn’t match the real wood drawers at all, and the surface feels very much like plastic. I would have liked to return it, if it hadn’t already been assembled over several hours by a friend!!!
I can only advise against Pax Birch and will also be filing a complaint directly with Ikea!!!
Best regards,
Anja

This is really a nightmare. I haven’t seen Pax yet, but if it’s anything like Faktum Nexus or FAKTUM ÄDEL in the new birch finish, then good night. For me, this is the most astonishing product range change since IKEA’s inception. I never expected it could get this bad. The beautiful “warm” birch fronts are gone. I could cry.
