Hello everyone,
perhaps I should briefly introduce myself as a newcomer here:
male, 58 years old, “home IKEA” Duisburg.
A few weeks ago, I noticed that the birch Pax wardrobes were slowly disappearing from online ordering.
Try ordering a carcass 100 x 35 x 201 cm (39 x 14 x 79 inches) in birch. It doesn’t work.
Since I’m now starting to renew my bedroom with Pax, I didn’t like that at all.
A friendly lady at the hotline explained to me after some hesitation that IKEA has announced an internal email about a successor to Pax. The date mentioned was March 1st. However, she told me that such announcement dates usually shift by several weeks. She advised me not to start building my wardrobe wall just yet. The new Pax design will be somewhat more modern, rounded, and youthful. AND, they will not be compatible with the old carcasses. “So if you buy the 3.5 meter (11.5 ft) carcasses now, you might want to buy new doors after half a year (which I actually planned to do) and then find out that the new doors don’t fit the old carcasses.” For this sentence, I thanked her very much.
Has anyone else heard similar news? Since I think IKEA introduces these changes in Sweden first, I’m frequently checking the Swedish website, but so far there’s nothing new there either. For now, I have decided to wait.
Kind regards

magicmidnight20 Mar 2009 11:43uuuuh, that's good to know! I'm also currently looking to buy a PAX and don't have the money to pay for everything at once—oops. But I don't think they will completely change the product range from one day to the next... maybe gradually, like one cabinet now, then a door later... or???
So, from what I have observed online with IKEA worldwide, it seems to primarily concern the birch surface.
It appears that the main issue is that the carcasses and doors are not compatible. Of course, if the new carcasses have rounder shapes, the old doors cannot fit perfectly.
Another thought: could this have been the reason for the big Pax 3-for-2 promotion in recent weeks?
Have a great weekend

lisa_616221 Mar 2009 21:41Hello Toots,
We also just bought a Pax, and the seller advised us against birch or to wait another two to three months, as the product range is being updated. But since it was quite urgent, we decided to go with antique stain, and I have to say I like it much better now.
I’ve also been to Butzweilerhof, really nice there – and so spacious. I especially liked the roundabout.
