Hello everyone,
perhaps I should briefly introduce myself as a newcomer here:
male, 58 years old, “home IKEA” Duisburg.
A few weeks ago, I noticed that the birch Pax wardrobes were slowly disappearing from online ordering.
Try ordering a carcass 100 x 35 x 201 cm (39 x 14 x 79 inches) in birch. It doesn’t work.
Since I’m now starting to renew my bedroom with Pax, I didn’t like that at all.
A friendly lady at the hotline explained to me after some hesitation that IKEA has announced an internal email about a successor to Pax. The date mentioned was March 1st. However, she told me that such announcement dates usually shift by several weeks. She advised me not to start building my wardrobe wall just yet. The new Pax design will be somewhat more modern, rounded, and youthful. AND, they will not be compatible with the old carcasses. “So if you buy the 3.5 meter (11.5 ft) carcasses now, you might want to buy new doors after half a year (which I actually planned to do) and then find out that the new doors don’t fit the old carcasses.” For this sentence, I thanked her very much.
Has anyone else heard similar news? Since I think IKEA introduces these changes in Sweden first, I’m frequently checking the Swedish website, but so far there’s nothing new there either. For now, I have decided to wait.
Kind regards

Hello chicki,
I was in Heerlen today. According to the system, all Birch Pax units are still available at your location.
On Monday, I’m coming to pick up my second Pax. It rained so heavily today that I didn’t want to load anything.
This was my first time there. It really is only 15 km (9 miles) from me. Great.
So, you have a new regular customer.

Hello Ikea fans,
Today I visited the Ikea store in Duisburg and noticed the new PAX birch carcasses on the shelves. The price has stayed the same.
Three identifying features:
A new order number starting with 800 instead of 001
Narrower packages
Made in Lithuania instead of Italy.
The staff at the information desk confirmed that these are the new models.
They were not yet assembled in the furniture display. They are said to have rounder shapes and a different base.
They also mentioned a color difference. Now I’m curious to see the first assembled models.

Hej hello,
I checked with our team today and no one knows anything about a new Pax series. Are we really that far behind? Did you ask about it in Heerlen? I only found out today that the drawer for cloths and scarves in birch is being discontinued. Hmm..
My friends actually wanted to buy a mega Pax combination over the weekend, and now?
Argh.

Hi chicki,
No, I didn’t ask in Heerlen. The Pax cabinets aren’t in your warehouse either. You have to order them from the department upstairs and then pick them up at the customer counter. So I couldn’t check anything there. In Duisburg, they are in the warehouse, and I could take my time to look.
Well, as the guys at the info desk said: if you already have a cabinet to start with, you should continue using the old carcasses. The new base and color difference would be very noticeable.
But if you’re starting a new project from scratch…
On the other hand, if your friends are buying a complete project now, it doesn’t matter. It only becomes an issue if you want to add a new piece in a year. Then the difference will stand out.
I’ve decided to pick up old carcasses from your place on Monday. I’ve already assembled the first meter of my planned 3 meters (about 10 feet). Birch combined with DRAMMEN doors is a great combo, in my opinion. The carcass I need (100x35x201 cm (39x14x79 inches)) is unfortunately 4 € more expensive than in Germany. So it looks like I’ll just have a small Köttbullar at the restaurant.
Cheers

hmm.. okay.. so far I’ve heard that the birch drawer with compartments for scarves/belts will be available starting in April. I’m planning to get one or two of those.
Besides that, starting in April we’ll also get a new wardrobe system with about five different door options to choose from. I’m curious to see how they look in person, but nothing beats a PAX for me.
My friends have a 6-meter (20-foot) combination unit, or as you nicely put it, a "project."
They wanted to mix white with birch. I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
