Hello everyone, I am currently planning a new wardrobe system from Ikea and have been particularly interested in the Pax range. I noticed that there are different configurations available, including various drawer mechanisms. My specific question is: Which Ikea Pax wardrobes or drawer modules come standard with a soft-close feature? Are there differences depending on the model, or is it generally optional? I am looking for something that closes as quietly and smoothly as possible, as this is an important criterion for me. Thank you in advance for all your answers and experiences!

Regarding the question of which Pax drawers have a soft-close feature, here is a brief overview: Ikea generally offers two types of drawer runners for Pax drawers – standard and soft-close.

- The soft-close function is usually integrated into the higher-end drawer fronts or cabinet systems, especially in drawers with fronts made of glass or metal frames.
- Modules with wooden fronts may also have soft-close depending on the model, but it is often available as an optional extra.

It is also important to note that some of the classic drawers labeled simply as “metal runners” do not have an integrated soft-close function and need to be upgraded separately at Ikea.

My advice: Pay attention to the product description when purchasing, as it usually explicitly states “soft-close function included.” You can also test this feature in the store.

If you need further details or specific model numbers afterward, I’m happy to assist.

I had exactly this problem when I renovated my Pax drawers. I really like that soft-close drawers are much more comfortable and quieter, especially when living with children or in quiet rooms. I had decided to go for the Pax drawers with integrated soft-close directly from Ikea to avoid having to modify them later.

To be honest, I was also a bit confused at first because Ikea doesn’t offer soft-close on all Pax drawers by default – some require separate accessories, like special runners. I can relate to how frustrating it can be when you think you ordered everything correctly, only to find those small details are missing.

So, my experience is that I bought the "Maximera" drawer units with soft-close function, which are often standard on the newer modules.

Thanks for the question! I’ve wondered about this myself quite a few times. I find that with Ikea, it can sometimes be a bit unclear because the drawer slides in the PAX systems aren’t the same everywhere.

A quick note about my experience: I have several PAX wardrobes in my apartment, and the ones I bought three years ago came with standard drawers without soft-close. When I tried to retrofit them, there were some complications, so if you’re buying new, I would definitely recommend choosing drawers that are explicitly marked as having soft-close.

I’m also curious whether the soft-close feature in PAX drawers has proven to be truly durable over time. Does anyone here have long-term experience with them? How robust are these mechanisms with daily use?

The MAXIMERA drawers in Ikea Pax usually have soft-close functionality. The other standard drawers do not have this feature automatically. Just make sure to check for "soft-close" in the product description when ordering.

Soft-close runners for Pax drawers can also be retrofitted if they are not installed as standard. Ikea offers the drawer slides as replacement parts.
