ᐅ How can I stabilize Ikea Pax wardrobes on uneven floors?

Hello everyone, I recently purchased several Ikea Pax wardrobes and plan to place them on a floor that is unfortunately quite uneven. The irregularities reach up to 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) diagonally over about 1 meter (3.3 feet), which of course affects the stability of the wardrobes. My main question is: how can I effectively stabilize Ikea Pax wardrobes on uneven floors so that they neither tip over nor get damaged? I am inclined to adjust the feet, but since Ikea Pax wardrobes do not come with adjustable feet by default, I wonder if there are any recommended solutions or tricks to compensate for the unevenness. I would really appreciate practical experience, tips on specific materials, assembly methods, or alternatives to the original feet. Thanks in advance!

I’m familiar with the issue of uneven floors, and it can be unsettling, especially if you don’t have experience assembling furniture. What helped me back then was placing small plastic shims under the legs; it feels more secure and is hardly noticeable. It’s important to firmly fix the cabinets to the wall, as this relieves a lot of stress from the structure. Sometimes a friend with some handy skills can help adjust the height. Don’t worry, you’ll manage!

My approach was to retrofit adjustable furniture feet with large threads that can be simply screwed onto the bottom. This allows each foot to be aligned precisely to the millimeter. Felt pads were added to protect the cabinet from slipping. In my opinion, the investment is worthwhile because it also makes it easier to move the cabinets later.

Hey, I know how frustrating it is when the floor doesn’t cooperate. I just used small rubber feet, like those often found on kitchen cabinets – they are height-adjustable, provide good grip, and even look quite professional. You might almost think Ikea should offer something like this directly for Pax! Good luck with your DIY!

In addition to the previous discussion, I would like to point out that installing height-adjustable feet involves some extra effort, but the amount of fine-tuning varies significantly depending on the replacement feet model. Universal furniture threaded feet with metric screws (M8/M10) offer an adjustment height of up to 4 cm (1.6 inches), which is usually sufficient.

When installing, also pay attention to securely fastening the anchoring screws in the base panel of the Pax – some models lack a pre-installed threaded insert here, so you may need to add a suitable insert nut (T-nut).

Furthermore: Never support the unit with only one or two feet while leaving others free. If there are multiple uneven spots, all feet should be properly placed and adjusted to avoid load concentration points that could potentially cause damage.

Have I considered your floor profile correctly?

Make sure to securely screw to the underside of the cabinet.

Are there any specific replacement parts from Ikea or third-party suppliers recommended for replacing the feet? The original feet are either glued or just inserted, so I’m a bit concerned whether retrofitting without major modifications is possible.

You can use suitable furniture legs with threaded bolts that fit into the pre-drilled holes in the cabinet base. For Ikea Pax wardrobes, there are no official replacement legs, but various spare part suppliers offer compatible options. Usually, a small drilling jig helps to create new holes.
