Hello everyone,
things are moving forward for us now. After visiting quite a few kitchen outlets in the past, we finally decided on IKEA. Mainly because it’s affordable – secondly, because the kitchen salespeople were almost driving me crazy in the end (a $1000 discount because the sun is shining…). IKEA doesn’t offer any consultation at all… not great either, but still better than that.
We were somewhat fixed on the layout because of the windows… now we are even more set because of the utility connections… The screed is already in place.
The cabinet fronts are Hyttan and Bodbyn – we will buy the appliances separately.
We thought the waste bin should be a pull-out unit under the sink.
A quick note about the tall cabinet row (since it’s not that visible) on the left side of the plan:
60cm (24 inches) cabinet, oven, 60cm (24 inches) cabinet, refrigerator, small freezer.
We would love to hear your opinion. Are there any things we absolutely should change? Since neither of us really has a sense for design, we would appreciate any tips or comments on that as well.
Thanks and best regards

I just had a close encounter of the third kind with this company.
I was always a fan of IKEA, but what they are doing here is outrageous.
I bought new cabinets for 1200€ through the Faktum clearance shop. Unfortunately, a few parts arrived damaged (chipped corners and edges).
We only noticed this after the delivery service had left.
And now? I called the hotline, but the annoying automated system is driving me crazy—it’s almost impossible to reach a real person. After 15 minutes on a Sunday, I finally got through to a representative who told me I was calling outside of business hours.
He also said that for complaints, the local store is responsible.
But the store doesn’t consider itself responsible for the Faktum clearance purchases. Great, that trip was a waste.
So, I filled out an online form. Note: "Minimum processing time 14 days!!!!!".
Now I’ve been on hold at the hotline for 30 minutes, listening to annoying music just to finally talk to a human.
I’m about to lose it here!!

Oh yes, we experienced the same recently with an online order and the related complaint:
The online form states that a minimum processing time of 14 days is required. In urgent cases, you are supposed to call. However, no one answered the hotline (I gave up after 35 minutes).
After almost a week, we received feedback that the claimed item will be sent to us again and that we can keep the defective item.

Reminds me somehow of the Magenta builders hotline.
For reasons like these, we got our kitchen from the local furniture store.
The freezer section of the fridge would freeze over every two days. After two weeks, we were fed up. One call later, and the Siemens technician was at our door the next day.
The range hood rattled with a metallic noise. One call later, the Siemens technician fixed the problem the very next day.
Cost of the kitchen including professional planning and installation: 3,000.00 euros (approx. $3,200) through IKEA.
Service and local support: Priceless!
The last IKEA cabinet will be removed in January. Two doors are missing, which broke during the move. No replacements are available anymore due to a product range change. On the invoice: 30-year warranty and even 10 years of replacement guarantee! Cabinet age: 5 years!
IKEA’s solution: A shrug and a voucher for the value of the two doors. Apparently, this Pax cabinet is no longer available anywhere across Germany.
Conclusion: IKEA is fine for small stuff and the blue zipper bags. With a bit more investment, I can get solid furniture elsewhere with installation included.
@SirSydom: I wish you much success and patience!

Well, I don’t think the quality of Faktum cabinets is that bad. In my opinion, some kitchens from furniture stores feel cheaper.
For us, it was the price and sales approach of traditional kitchen studios. I prefer knowing what A costs, what B costs, and what C costs, instead of planning everything first, then getting an astronomical price, followed by a supposed 123% discount, and then having to negotiate.
We got identical kitchens planned with Nolte and IKEA, just the cabinets, without appliances or installation.
=> IKEA: €4,200 (approximately $4,600), furniture store €11,000 (approximately $12,000).
Since the house was only rented, and now after 2 1/2 years we didn’t want to throw away the kitchen, we can adapt it well to the new (owned) house. Also, with a new kitchen, I would want a stone countertop and so on, in the range of €25,000 (about $27,000), which is not possible right now due to construction costs. Therefore, we went for the cheaper option with an add-on for €1,200 (about $1,300) and a new countertop.
By the way, I got someone on the hotline after 35 minutes. And yes, it was similar with Telekom… that gave me some headaches too. Kabel Deutschland is better in that regard!

So – we have received two more drawings:
Nobilia for 11,000 euros (he more or less created this by accident)
Nolte for 10,000 euros (our preferred option – not real wood, but Chalet oak)

We have now requested the following changes for the Nolte design:
He promised to revise it again tomorrow, and we will visit again on Saturday. We are eager to see how it turns out.

We have now requested the following changes for the Nolte design:
- Sink side: cabinets to be planned parallel to the trash bin: that is, a 45cm (18 inch) drawer above (next to the sink, probably a significantly shortened one (?); a panel next to the dishwasher) and a 30cm (12 inch) drawer below.
- Splashback in the same color as the countertops – all around
- Under the oven and in the tall cabinet (30cm, 30cm, 15cm – matching the other base cabinets)

I like it.
Personally, I would find it too much wood if the countertop, the fronts of the tall cabinets, AND the backsplash were all made from the same material.
In that case, I would prefer the Nobilia option with white tall cabinet fronts. Side panels are fine, but the fronts are too much.
The break in the lines of the tall cabinets is also unattractive – I'm sure that can be resolved differently!
I find the Nolte faucet impractical. I would place it further back :P
