Hello everyone,
things are moving forward for us now. After visiting quite a few kitchen outlets in the past, we finally decided on IKEA. Mainly because it’s affordable – secondly, because the kitchen salespeople were almost driving me crazy in the end (a $1000 discount because the sun is shining…). IKEA doesn’t offer any consultation at all… not great either, but still better than that.
We were somewhat fixed on the layout because of the windows… now we are even more set because of the utility connections… The screed is already in place.
The cabinet fronts are Hyttan and Bodbyn – we will buy the appliances separately.
We thought the waste bin should be a pull-out unit under the sink.
A quick note about the tall cabinet row (since it’s not that visible) on the left side of the plan:
60cm (24 inches) cabinet, oven, 60cm (24 inches) cabinet, refrigerator, small freezer.
We would love to hear your opinion. Are there any things we absolutely should change? Since neither of us really has a sense for design, we would appreciate any tips or comments on that as well.
Thanks and best regards

If a handle or something slips so awkwardly that the corner carousel no longer opens or gets stuck, you change your opinion. I know that from my parents and am happy not to have one anymore. You really only gain space in exceptional cases. My parents have the carousel at the back in a U-shaped 6m² (65 sq ft) kitchen, where no regular cabinet would have fit otherwise.Yes, I know that from my mother—however, she has a carousel like @nordanney and it’s completely overfilled (not decluttered). After 30 years, you can still find all kinds of things if you want—pushed deep into the corner of the cabinet. I had a carousel like that in my old kitchen. I could have put the pots in a comparable pull-out cabinet, but they would have been stacked, and the handles of the frying pans somehow squeezed, so I would have to move several pots noisily to get to the bottom one.
Now it looks like this:
I have to admit that while the base of the pull-outs has a small surface area, the handles can stick out beyond the storage space here and there. I wouldn’t have that in a pull-out. As mentioned above: a bit of a mix.
Otherwise, I would be interested in seeing your pot pull-outs from the inside—would you like to share photos?
Me again.
It is true that, mathematically, a blind corner provides more storage space (I haven’t recalculated this recently, but it is certainly understandable).
However, one should keep in mind that a) the blind corner (albeit in a different form) is quite expensive (around 0.4 times the price per square meter of the house), b) this extra space has to be compensated for elsewhere, and c) the unusable space inside a LeMans or carousel cabinet results from pots taking up space in the pull-out cabinets due to their rounded shapes (so there is a lot of wasted room inside the drawers, which means another cabinet is needed).
At least, this was my thinking about 2.5 years ago when we were planning our kitchen.

We also chose the blind corner, based on our experience with a carousel corner. This allowed us to have adjacent pull-out cabinets 80 cm (31 inches) wide, resulting in a nice visual symmetry.
A large drawer holds all the pots except for the roasting pan and frying pans. These share their space with bowls and similar items.
Our kitchen has become significantly smaller! I decluttered thoroughly. I don’t need large amounts of Tupperware or multiple duplicates of other items.
Our new kitchen is still largely unused, except for the refrigerator.

Otherwise, I’m quite interested in seeing your pot drawers from the inside – would you be willing to share photos? We use the top large drawer under the cooktop for our pots. Inside, except for two small pots and one medium pot, there are two complete pot sets. The frying pans are in the lower drawer to the left of the cooktop. Unfortunately, it couldn’t be arranged differently.

Bauexperte16 Dec 2015 23:40Good evening Yvonne,
Yes, I know that too, and it’s just really annoying... also the hassle with the handles, those carousel units don’t like that at all. And I was so proud...
I like it; who really needs that many pots and pans that they’d be cooking for a small restaurant?
What do you think after using it for a few months? Are you satisfied? There will be a new kitchen next year, and I don’t want to regret it again afterwards.
Best regards, Bauexperte

Oh, thank you very much, @EveundGerd, is that an 80cm (31.5 inches) cabinet? You can fit a lot of pots in there.
Today, before cooking, I held my favorite frying pan in front of my 60cm (23.6 inches) cabinet, and only 2-3 smaller pots would fit with it, nothing else. At the bottom, I stack my pans and a large pot, maybe a small saucepan... I would need another cabinet like that, but there’s no space for it in my kitchen.
Maybe it’s because of the sizes of my pots?
If I remember tomorrow, I’ll try to organize my pots in the corresponding cabinet and take some photos.
