Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the setup of my new IKEA Metod kitchen and am wondering how to achieve optimal lighting. My main goal is to have good illumination of the work surfaces without glare, as well as creating a pleasant overall light ambiance for the kitchen area.

What options does the Metod range offer regarding integrated or retrofit lighting? Are there recommendations for specific light sources or systems that work well with the cabinets?

It would also be helpful to get a realistic idea of the effort and costs involved, especially when adding lighting to existing cabinets.

Looking forward to tips and experiences!

Additionally, I would recommend testing the power requirements and wiring before installation. Especially with retrofitted lighting, it may be necessary to adjust or expand the electrical circuits.

A simple alternative is battery-powered LED strips if running cables is not possible – however, these usually have lower light output and are less convenient to operate.

Another tip: If you choose smart lighting, ideally plan the positions of controls and sensors carefully before installing the cabinets.

For the IKEA Metod system, I can recommend the LED strips from IKEA itself; they fit perfectly inside the cabinets and are easy to install.

Good lighting requires multiple fixtures, not just one LED strip. Combine under-cabinet and interior lighting whenever possible.

I installed LED panels under the wall cabinets in my Metod kitchen. They provide very even lighting without shadows.

The installation was straightforward; I used the IKEA power supplies and connected everything through standard power outlets.

I also use a dimmer so I can have bright light while cooking and dim, cozy lighting after the meal.

Be sure to use a surge protector for the LED lighting. This significantly extends the lifespan of the lamps.

I also recommend matching the light color to the rest of the room’s lighting, otherwise the overall appearance can look unattractive.

Thanks to everyone for the very helpful tips and suggestions! I now realize that the lighting in the Metod kitchen is not an issue that can be viewed in isolation. It’s the combination of color temperature, multiple light sources, and control options that creates a good solution.

I will start with LED strips under the wall cabinets and make sure to choose dimmable lights with adjustable color temperature whenever possible.

Thanks again to all, I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out and how the result looks!
