Well.
Either the IKEA person didn’t read their employment contract properly or they were planning to change jobs anyway 😉
As I have mentioned elsewhere, it is simply IKEA’s business policy (and this is by no means a secret) to constantly change their product range.
In the end, everything is ALWAYS discontinued at some point.
It’s that simple.
When something is discontinued at IKEA, you can simply keep buying it until the stock runs out—after that, it’s gone for good.
The purpose of changing the product range is to create capacity for new products. It doesn’t make much sense to fill yourself up with “old stuff.”

[quote]Where is the problem that Faktum will eventually be replaced The problem is that there will be no replacement available! So why is it an issue to keep Faktum? The 60cm (24 inch) width will probably remain because electrical appliances are based on it, and I don't think IKEA will manufacture custom-sized appliances. The depth won't be reduced either, as then you could just buy countertops from a hardware store. Basically, only the drilling dimensions will be changed so that Faktum fronts no longer fit. Additionally, there will likely be a shorter height option because low-profile kitchens are currently trendy.

I can well imagine there will be new cabinet carcasses taller than 70cm (28 inch). The working height in kitchens has increased over recent years among kitchen manufacturers. IKEA responded with 20cm (8 inch) high legs. This doesn’t look great and wastes space.
Of course, I’m also not thrilled that after my next move I won’t be able to adapt my kitchen anymore, but there can never be innovations if you always stick to the old. What’s annoying is that IKEA does not announce such changes early enough. Especially among IKEA customers, there should be many who do a lot of DIY work and wouldn’t want to buy a new kitchen only a year before a change if they then couldn’t modify it as much. Even worse would be hollow furniture panels, although I can hardly imagine that, since it’s clear that almost any built-in kitchen requires some modifications.
Today at IKEA, I was told that "it will definitely be worth waiting to buy the kitchen until the end of the fiscal year" because the new catalog will bring some surprises. This also fits with the fact that a number of appliances are currently being discontinued, the new appliances are not yet available for order (e.g., Rengöra dishwasher), and they have "quickly" introduced a 0% financing offer (for comparison: financing a 4000 EUR kitchen through the payment card results in over 850 EUR interest over a three-year term).

IKEA’s fiscal year always starts on September 1, so the current one has only been running for about four weeks.
The new products that will be introduced are already available, so nothing major will happen anymore.
The new FAKTUM (which will no longer be called FAKTUM!) will therefore appear at the earliest in August 2013, and even that launch date is not yet final.
Although I have only seen pictures, the new kitchen will be completely different and will have nothing at all in common with FAKTUM.
So, either buy NOW or really wait for another year.
That’s all I can and am allowed to say.

Artur_859929 Jul 2012 10:36but the new kitchen will be completely differentHow exactly? Does Ikea plan to build a completely new kitchen? The kitchen system is always quite similar compared to other manufacturers, with the standard width of 60cm (24 inches)...
So, what they could improve would be:
- taller carcasses for more storage space, allowing for lower kickboards
- better proportions of tall cabinets (freezer, cleaning supply cabinet, oven/microwave cabinet) to reduce misalignments
- possibly a dark interior for the carcasses when using dark fronts, so the gaps are less noticeable
- these functional corner cabinets could be improved, especially to be more stable
Hello,
I came across this forum by chance. I plan to buy an Ikea kitchen next year, but since the rumor was confirmed at IKEA yesterday, I’m now uncertain.
The staff said there will be a completely new range, but they couldn’t say whether Faktum cabinets will still be available for purchase. They also don’t know when the new range will be released.
Would it be better to wait for the next range, or should I still buy Faktum now?
I think it will definitely be expensive either way.
I was really looking forward to a new kitchen.
Best regards,
Andrea

Nightboat4 Sep 2012 21:50Just wait and see what comes next year.
If you prefer the new program, go with the new one.
If you like Faktum better, try to get discounted Faktum units. It might be more challenging to buy additional pieces later, but eBay and similar platforms still exist...
