ᐅ New Kitchen – Dishwasher from Ikea or Another Manufacturer?

Hello everyone,

My girlfriend and I are currently planning a new kitchen at IKEA.
After reading a lot here, many people have chosen a different dishwasher than the one from IKEA, which makes installation quite difficult.

[List:9yql848c]Can someone tell me why you do this?
What advantages does it have?
What about the current machines that IKEA offers—aren’t they good enough (5-year warranty)?[/List:u:9yql848c]
We would consider the Rengöra, Skinande, or Välgjord models.

I’m curious why you decided against these products—are they not that great?

Thanks in advance.

The "problem" is the price-to-performance ratio. The IKEA dishwasher costs €449 (approximately $492), is a no-name brand, and has limited features. For that price, you can get an upper mid-range model from Siemens and similar brands. This pattern applies across IKEA’s range of appliances.

We have an Ikea Rengöra dishwasher in our kitchenette. It cleans quite well, no doubt about that. It has been in use for over two years, sometimes running daily, other times just twice a week. So far, there have been no malfunctions. In the rented apartment, we also installed a Rengöra about a year ago; in the spring, there was an issue with an error message. We went to check it out – it had washed a granite cutting board, and one of the glued rubber stoppers on the underside of the board had blocked the pump. Once that was removed, the dishwasher worked perfectly again. So, I can’t say anything bad about the Ikea dishwashers.

And now the big but: A few months ago, the old Siemens dishwasher in our main kitchen broke down. After a lot of consideration, we decided to go with a Siemens because of its good features, rather than one from Ikea. Also, because in a main kitchen you can expect tougher cleaning challenges like greasy pots, oily dressing mix glasses, burnt casserole dishes... where the Ikea Rengöra can sometimes struggle, the Siemens does not. After several months of use, I am still very satisfied with the Siemens dishwasher.

It depends on whether you actually need all these extra programs. I believe our Skinande is mostly operated by me, since it’s set to Auto at home later on. And then it gets clean. Karsten

I don’t have any experience with Ikea appliances, but I do with Siemens devices.
After our cheap, basic Beko appliances started failing after 9 years, we replaced them with Siemens devices.

The worst was the oven. After a few months, the fan started making strange noises. The technician took a look and could hardly believe his eyes. The fan wasn’t installed properly; it was just placed on top. On top of that, the fan couldn’t even be installed correctly because it was the wrong fan model.
After 1.5 years, the induction cooktop’s touch panel stopped working. According to the technician, that’s a common problem.

My wife would have preferred to return the dishwasher immediately. The Beko dishwasher cleaned better, was faster (now you just wait 3 hours until the dishes are dry), was easier to load, and didn’t get dirty as quickly.
The advantage of the Siemens dishwasher is lower consumption and quieter operation.

So much for German quality craftsmanship.

The affordable models from BoschSiemens are made in Portugal. The original brand is Amica. Then Siemens or Bosch labels are added, and suddenly the price goes up by 50-70 percent.

*UPS* Just realized we don’t have Siemens, but the Bosch sister brand.

Overall, we didn’t buy something basic, but rather in the good mid-range. I should check tonight if I can find out where they came from.

In general, I agree with you that most people only use a fraction of the functions these appliances offer.
