ᐅ Feedback on the Ikea Kitchen

Hello everyone,
things are moving forward for us now. After visiting quite a few kitchen outlets in the past, we finally decided on IKEA. Mainly because it’s affordable – secondly, because the kitchen salespeople were almost driving me crazy in the end (a $1000 discount because the sun is shining…). IKEA doesn’t offer any consultation at all… not great either, but still better than that.
We were somewhat fixed on the layout because of the windows… now we are even more set because of the utility connections… The screed is already in place.
The cabinet fronts are Hyttan and Bodbyn – we will buy the appliances separately.
We thought the waste bin should be a pull-out unit under the sink.
A quick note about the tall cabinet row (since it’s not that visible) on the left side of the plan:
60cm (24 inches) cabinet, oven, 60cm (24 inches) cabinet, refrigerator, small freezer.

We would love to hear your opinion. Are there any things we absolutely should change? Since neither of us really has a sense for design, we would appreciate any tips or comments on that as well.
Thanks and best regards

Thank you for the feedback. The sink was moved there, although I’m not sure by how much – it’s now 1.2 m (4 feet) away.
I will take another look at the symmetry – however, with IKEA, this is always somewhat limited because they don’t have that many different modular pieces. I would have liked a shutter cabinet in the corner as well, but unfortunately, IKEA doesn’t offer that.
Accent – okay, I’ll experiment with that some more.
Removing the top row because it might feel too “overwhelming”? I had thought about that as well.

The work surface will be sufficient. In an open kitchen, you need to focus on both functionality and aesthetics.
I once had a roll-up door cabinet from Ikea, which is a practical solution for a corner for appliances.
Otherwise, it can feel overwhelming. You can use the upper section for some decoration.
It is said that half of the budget should go to furniture and the other half to appliances. We also reached the $10,000 limit, but with a branded kitchen in a neat layout.
Be cautious with Ikea’s carousel units for pots; they tend to sag under weight.

The best offer from the kitchen studio was 13,000 euros including appliances, installation, etc.—so probably around 11,000 euros for the kitchen alone—but I have to admit, I didn’t think the Nobilia kitchen seemed better finished than the IKEA one. Thanks for the tip about the carousel. Unfortunately, it seems there are no more roller shutter cabinets available for the Metod kitchen. However, you’re probably right about the grid system.

Hello,
There is definitely potential for optimization – although that’s not really my area of expertise.
Drawers under the stove, on the other hand – directly below our stove is the drawer we use most frequently while cooking. Contents: cooking spoons, spatulas, bamboo tongs, oven mitts, etc. – basically everything I want within easy reach while cooking. Below that, pots and pans are stored, and right next to the stove are spices and oil.

What I don’t like so much: when cooking, you spend most of the time facing away from the room. And when sitting at the counter, you almost fall into the sink. That should be improved...

@Irgendwoabaier .. and you think it makes more sense to sit at the counter right above the cooking pot?

So

you get two practical prep areas on either side of the sink. Because you use the sink a lot. And if you like cooking with more than one person, this is practical. Quickly washing vegetables, cleaning knives, etc. Usually, you don’t stand at the stove for long. Also, the performance of the range hood is better when it doesn’t have to be placed in the middle of the room.

Good morning,

No consultation at IKEA? It was different for us and really great, but just as a side note.
The drawers under the sink won’t work because that’s where the drain is located.
