Hello everyone,
things are moving forward for us now. After visiting quite a few kitchen outlets in the past, we finally decided on IKEA. Mainly because it’s affordable – secondly, because the kitchen salespeople were almost driving me crazy in the end (a $1000 discount because the sun is shining…). IKEA doesn’t offer any consultation at all… not great either, but still better than that.
We were somewhat fixed on the layout because of the windows… now we are even more set because of the utility connections… The screed is already in place.
The cabinet fronts are Hyttan and Bodbyn – we will buy the appliances separately.
We thought the waste bin should be a pull-out unit under the sink.
A quick note about the tall cabinet row (since it’s not that visible) on the left side of the plan:
60cm (24 inches) cabinet, oven, 60cm (24 inches) cabinet, refrigerator, small freezer.
We would love to hear your opinion. Are there any things we absolutely should change? Since neither of us really has a sense for design, we would appreciate any tips or comments on that as well.
Thanks and best regards

Yvonne, what does this have to do with being left-handed? My dishwasher is also located to the left of the sink, and I am right-handed. A dishwasher should always be placed where it does not get in the way when the door is open. In my various apartments, the dishwasher has been positioned both to the right and to the left of the sink. There are no usability issues either way.
The design should be available in different colors and interchangeable. However, I am not only confused about the dishwasher’s location but also other aspects. I’ll mention a few points just to check if they have been considered. If not, they can still be changed.
The cutlery drawer is likely in the island. In that case, the dishwasher would block access to it.
The rows, when looked at individually, are not symmetrical. What about the drawers under the stove? Are they the same width?
Under the large window: why not place the sink centered under the window, with the dishwasher and trash bins directly below, and matching drawers on the left and right (or your base cabinet with a waste system, whatever it is called or looks like)?
The tall cabinets: stove centered, with cabinet handles to the left and right, and drawers below the stove.
The corner between the window and tall cabinets would be good for shelves (cookbooks, herbs, medicine, etc.).
For glasses or cups, it is too far from the sink.
And then, consider the contents: Tupperware, bowls, pots, and small utensils near the stove, spices too, a tall cabinet for pantry items, a base cabinet in the island for dishes… Keep in mind that cabinets facing the living area often cannot be accessed directly, because the dining area is in front and blocks access.
