So... here I am again!

I actually wanted to share the plan of our IKEA Metod kitchen here, but I just can't manage to link my kitchen layout.
I've tried several times now. Could someone help me?

Best regards,
Frosch

Hello
Send an email to yourself from the Ikea online planner and post the link from that email here.

Thanks, section chief!!

A description:

These blocks represent a wall projection (the tall narrow one) and the other one at the front is a wood stove. The wall with the opening is only half-height; behind it is the dining room.
The door below leads to the pantry.

On the left side, a freestanding refrigerator will be placed all the way to the left (60cm (24 inches) wide).

This lonely open shelf at the top right corner is my desperate attempt to integrate a small cookbook rack... so far, not very successful.

I would actually like to have a 40cm (16 inch) cabinet with 5 small drawers to the left of the stove, but then I would have to reduce the 80cm (31 inch) cabinet left of the stove down to 60cm (24 inches)... hmm...
My mother also has these small drawers in her kitchen, and I find them very, very practical (wooden spoons, ladles, large knives, aluminum foil, skewers, rubber bands, ...).
But if I move 20cm (8 inches) further to the left, won’t the passage between the wood stove and the refrigerator to the pantry become quite narrow?

The dead corners are because I learned that corner cabinets don’t really add more space; the question is how this will look with the rather wide filler panels?
Should I maybe install a corner cabinet on one side after all?

Wall cabinets… above a 40cm (16 inch) drawer cabinet, I could theoretically install a 40cm (16 inch) open shelf (if that exists; otherwise, we will build it ourselves), but… only if it’s not directly above the stove, which is not ideal for books either… so maybe it belongs in the corner?

What should I generally do with this empty corner at the top? Ideas? Suggestions?

The countertop and fronts are deliberately not installed yet, as they will come from another company!

Overall, what do you think of this design? Complete nonsense?
Thanks very much in advance!

Frosch

Hello Froschkönigin,

instead of an open shelf, I would install a wall cabinet without doors with shelves, 60cm (24 inches) wide, extending to the window wall. That should fit quite a few cookbooks....

Below the window, I would place two base cabinets measuring 80cm (31.5 inches) by 60cm (24 inches). This will leave about 7cm (3 inches) of space on each side, depending on handle depth, which should work out.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend a 40cm (16 inches) base cabinet with drawers because the drawer side panels leave, in my opinion, very little usable drawer width. But no one’s stopping you - not even IKEA 😉 – from installing plenty of low drawers 80cm (31.5 inches) wide to the left of the stove. Drawer heights are at least 10cm (4 inches).

Best regards,
Wolfgang

Hello, like Wolf, I would also hang a proper wall cabinet for the cookbooks in the corner. You don’t have to leave the entire cabinet open. Since you are making the doors yourselves, you can install a door of any height, leaving only as much open at the bottom as you need for your books.

To plan the drawers correctly, it’s a good idea to draw drawer bottoms on kraft paper, for example, and place your pots, appliances, etc., on them. This way, you can easily see how much fits in a drawer and what (minimum) height you need for each.

Do you need an 80cm (31.5 inches) wide sink cabinet? If a 60cm (24 inches) one is enough, there would be space for a 60cm (24 inches) cabinet next to the dishwasher.

Hello,

thank you all very much for the feedback!!

@Wolfgang: I’ve already installed the upper cabinet for the books, a good idea!

Regarding the 7cm (3 inches) panel... that would mean only 3.5cm (1.5 inches) on each side, which doesn’t leave much choice for handles, especially since our kitchen isn’t exactly rectangular. I prefer having the option to shift a few millimeters without running into problems with the handles. I’m also not completely happy with the solution with the two 60cm (24 inch) units, but I will check out all the handles at my next Ikea visit, touch them and measure them. There is actually one slim one that we like.

Then I’ll take another look at the 40cm (16 inch) drawers, because...

@Tux unfortunately, I can’t really visualize it; I need to see them in front of me, open them, and reach inside.

But since I already have a cabinet with two smaller drawers on top, that should be enough. It’s a real shame that the Faktum version with two large drawers and one smaller drawer on top is no longer available—that was perfect! I could have done that on both sides, for example.

Since I have a Faktum at home and assume/hope that the interior dimensions for 80cm (32 inch) drawers are not too different from Metod, I know that on both sides of the stove there will be enough space for all pots and pans, even more than now.
