Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

So you’re using the concrete slab as a thermal storage as well. Sounds interesting. It reminds me a bit of ice storage heating, except you’re using an existing storage medium.
Living in a protected healing spring area. We weren’t granted permission for geothermal energy. So, the field trial system for passive houses and KfW 40 houses had to be used instead.

It’s definitely more than just 3 or 4 logs. Our mayor has a photovoltaic system with a 10 or 12 kW battery storage; he can charge his electric car and run one washing machine load. Some say that with the subsidies, especially the 10,000 houses program, the costs of battery storage have increased significantly. One thing is sure: prices will eventually go down.

We primarily use the ground as storage.

Alex,
we live in a refrigerator. The annual average global radiation in our area is below 1015 kWh/m² (94.2 BTU/ft²).

Even with a program for 10,000 houses or precisely because of it, the photovoltaic system with storage did not become profitable—at most if you base it solely on the brochures.

A battery storage system does not make a photovoltaic system more cost-effective; in fact, the opposite is true. If a photovoltaic system is not economically viable on its own, that will remain the case.

Storage systems will have their opportunity once the guaranteed feed-in tariffs no longer apply. As of today, solar power can only be used for self-consumption or essentially given away to the utility provider (or you receive a minimal, token compensation for it).

Bavaria is not the same everywhere. In the southern regions, there is over 300 kWh/m² (32,000 BTU/ft²) more solar irradiation.

My former neighbor in the industrial area fully covered his roof with photovoltaic panels. He was promised incredible yields and called anyone who didn’t install solar foolish. Unfortunately, the expected financial windfall did not materialize.

My brother-in-law and I reviewed the calculations. He has years of experience designing systems and reached the same conclusion. I don’t want to deal with business registration, tax returns, etc., for just a small amount of money, and a small system doesn’t pay off here. It can look very different with, for example, Climbee.

Dear friends of home building,

the technical room is slowly filling up…

Heating room with white cabinets, pipes, and boiler.

… and the heating program for the screed has been started…
