Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

There are often misunderstandings... however, you cannot change personalities. It might be nicer, but just stick to your own way.

Good luck moving forward!

I would still have a firm but polite conversation. If they continue to cause problems, they can go take a hike...

Definitely not, that will only escalate the situation. Always stay friendly,...

I think it should say "friendly"...

I also prefer: friendly, yet firm

Now we keep being reminded: please don’t be so loud, please lower the blinds, anyone can see inside, please close the windows, we can hear you…

We understand that later in the evening we need to be quiet, because the bedrooms of the (teenage) children are right where we sit – we are considerate about that, no question.

They’re not seriously asking YOU to lower your blinds so they don’t “have to” see you, are they? That’s just cheeky. Having neighbors is completely normal; very few people are lucky enough to have a detached or rather secluded house where nobody can see or hear anything from any side – especially not with today’s typical plot sizes.

By the way, I wouldn’t worry so much about the teenage kids. When I was a teenager, I was interested in everything but not in our neighbors and their noises. And I usually went to sleep quite late, probably later than when someone is sitting outside after work.
