Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

And the bathroom light above the mirror! Do you happen to have the manufacturer/model and where to buy it? Thanks!

It’s from Top Light, exact name:
Wall light LED Puk Choice Mirror, 4x Puk heads, 4x 8-watt downlight, 4x 8-watt uplight, 22.5 watts LED and indirect upward lighting – each with a clear lens below, frosted panel on top, color shiny chrome, total length 120cm (47 inches).

These Puks (the four spotlights attached to the bar) can be customized very individually in terms of lens, color, and beam type.

The cats – yeah, it’s really tough for me too. I try every day at the old apartment, running through the village calling their names (by now almost everyone knows the names of the cats we’re missing) and I put food at the door (maybe the runaway cat will come, he always liked eating outside) – but so far no luck.

We’re having trouble with the neighbors… it’s been ongoing for a while. Well, they didn’t want us to build there; they would have preferred it to remain just unused land. I can understand that. Of course, it’s nicer and you’re less observed that way. But honestly, it’s not my fault we couldn’t find another building plot (at least not one we could afford).

Now we keep getting complaints: please don’t be so loud, please lower the blinds, anyone can look in, please close the windows, we can hear you...

To be honest: if I’m sitting in my house at eight or eight-thirty in the evening, talking normally at the table (yesterday my brother and his family were here, yes, it gets louder with three kids, but we didn’t party, no music, nothing) and the door is open, then that’s just how it is. If I’m sitting outside talking, I also find that normal. And whoever wants to listen can do so. I’m not sharing secrets. But you can also just politely ignore it. No, apparently that’s not possible. Next time I’ll say I won’t lock myself away and that normal conversation has to be tolerated. And before I barricade myself in, they should please close their windows first (because theirs were open).

We’re definitely not annoying neighbors – we both leave the house early and come back in the evening and maybe sit outside together and chat. Occasionally we have guests and then there’s more talking, but otherwise, we’re really peaceful.

We do understand that we need to be quiet later in the evening because the bedrooms of the (teenage) kids face the area where we sit – we’re considerate about that, no question. But I just want to be able to talk normally without having to close all the windows and pull down the blinds.
If something bothers anyone, they should please close their own windows and/or lower their blinds.

Annoying!

But since yesterday we have installed LED strips in the showers. Looks cool:

Modern shower with rain shower head, handheld shower and LED light strips on the sides

Modern white shower area with rain shower head, handheld shower, mirror, LED edge lighting and storage box.

And we have a new housemate:

Living room floor with round robot vacuum in front of TV cabinet, plant and candle holder.

Yesterday it was named Sir Edward (the app asked for a name) and Sir Edward is really hardworking. Still a bit clueless, since he’s having a hard time finding his home base, but he’s supposed to be able to learn.

Now we are constantly being told: please don’t be so loud, please lower the blinds, everyone can see inside, please close the windows, we can hear you...

What? That’s outrageous... They want to tell you when to close your windows or blinds? Sure, anyone can look inside, but they can also look away, right? And about the noise... Pff, honestly, I would never deliberately let my children play loudly, but neighbors really can’t do much about kids making noise.

We feel the same way – and the kids weren’t really loud yesterday. They’re only rarely here anyway, since they’re not ours but my brother’s.

I think it was more us adults talking and laughing who were perceived as disturbing. But oh well… I’m alive.

I dislike the noise children make, but I tolerate it. In return, I expect my neighbors to tolerate my extremely loud sports car (which is also started early in the morning) as well as my music when I’m working in the garage.

You have to be tolerant. It’s pointless if everyone restricts themselves to the point of no return.

A little consideration is often not a bad thing. But what your neighbors have on their minds, I just can’t understand.

They are used to complete silence because no one lived there before. However, certain “emissions” are normal when you have neighbors.

Then they will have to adjust quickly, because they do have neighbors now. And if they don’t like it, they should go inside. Preferably to the basement...
