As is often the case, it’s a matter of personal preference. I also believe that nothing beats a real wood floor, but if you have small children, a) you only get to enjoy it for a short time, and b) every scratch and dent causes a minor meltdown.
So, we chose wood-look tiles—expensive ones—that feel great and look fantastic. And nobody who hasn’t built or renovated a home and therefore isn’t familiar with the topic notices that it’s not real wood... About 90% say, “Oh, what a beautiful plank floor.”
Even the fireplace installer was unsure whether it was wood and therefore if protective measures were needed.

Our neighbor has now started building as well. No strip foundations, but extremely expensive, frost-resistant sand, 24cm (9.5 inches) of insulation under the slab, and all heating and water pipes run within the slab. This will be interesting. He has the same plumbing company as us, and I know from them that they have never done anything like this before and don’t really know how to lay the water pipes these days...

Cool, a slab foundation with an inexperienced team. Everyone has to start somewhere ...... sometimes trust helps as well.
Maybe I would also read up on it in parallel or talk to experienced companies that know how to do it.
