Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Haven’t seen much from Axel’s house for a while, have we?

That’s true, but the recent photos aren’t very impressive either. In the past few days, the basement was waterproofed – two layers applied, one of which included a mesh reinforcement. Then the insulation and drainage boards were attached. Everything was finished by yesterday noon.

In the afternoon, the following people were on site simultaneously:

Our architect,
a representative from the water utility,
an employee from the energy provider (which also cooperates with the telecom company),
the plumber and heating engineer,
and a staff member from the drilling company for the geothermal borehole.

All of this suggests that there will be more meaningful updates and photos soon.

Best regards

Axel

Since yesterday, we have an outdoor staircase.
Additionally, we bought two old granite troughs from the quarry yesterday. These will be placed on top of the heavy retaining wall as a fall protection and will then be planted.

We also had a cistern owned by my parents lowered, which is located right next to our terrace and doesn’t look very appealing. It will be covered with 20cm (8 inches) of soil so grass can grow over it (hehe).

20cm (8 inches), is that enough? Usually, grass doesn’t grow well because the ground freezes or there’s no soil underneath to retain moisture.

The landscaper said that should be enough.
However, we don't really have any other option. The main goal is to make the ugly cover of the cistern disappear. If no grass grows there permanently, we'll dig it up again.
Instead, we'll just put gravel with a fire pit or something like that in there.

Hmm, don’t you need to access the cistern occasionally for cleaning, maintenance, etc.? In that case, I don’t think grass or soil is a good solution.
