Hi,
we want to order a cistern (about 5000 liters (1320 gallons)) online, have it delivered to us, and then have it installed. It should be a concrete cistern. Since many of you have probably already considered this and gained some experience, I wanted to ask if you could share any recommendations. Unfortunately, I could not find any reviews of manufacturers. I want to avoid ordering from the first cistern manufacturer that appears on Google and then receiving poor quality.

Ever heard of plastic welding?
I don’t know any cases where a plastic tank has become leaky without external damage. Concrete tanks, on the other hand, yes. My mother’s had to be repaired after 11 years. But it was a 80m3 (roughly 2,825 cubic feet) tank built on site.
There’s a reason why plastic is more commonly used in industry and large-scale construction.
The idea of using it for washing machines, toilets, etc., is more ideological than economical.

If I already have a large cistern to save on water charges, I can also invest an additional 2,000 to make proper use of the cistern water. But that is just my personal opinion.

7000 liters (1850 gallons) is not a lot.
With 2000 liters (530 gallons), you can run the toilet and washing machine for a long time. Water from the cistern, even with a filter, has a higher NTU (turbidity), which could mean a shorter lifespan for the washing machine.
As I said, it’s legitimate to do this. However, from a total cost of ownership analysis, it’s not economical. But neither is a single-family house.

@rick2018: You’re seriously coming at us with a TCO analysis? 😉
Please take this with an ironic wink! I appreciate your posts and your property!
I think Graf offers a 30-year warranty; if you’ve ever seen the wall thickness, you can tell that even with plastic materials, not much can go wrong. But in general, it’s important to assess what is needed (like groundwater conditions), and then I agree with @guckuck2: check what is locally available and what the groundworks contractor is familiar with!

We are satisfied with our 76,000-liter (20,066-gallon) submarine. That’s quite a sizable unit, well above average... According to the website, the submarine costs 28,000 euros, and installation will be an additional expense. Do you have a large enough garden for that to be cost-effective in the long term? Do you fill the cistern only through the rain gutter, or also using a groundwater pump?
