Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

We deliberately chose not to include a fireplace or, as I would rather call it, a fire pit.

I grew up with a large fireplace in my parents’ house. Every year, they had to gather wood, chop it, let it dry, and then when it was already cold outside, go out and refill the basket inside. We always said that a fireplace heats unevenly.

In the end, for me, the only advantage is that it creates a truly cozy atmosphere in the evening. It’s cold and windy outside, while inside the wood crackles softly. The heat is pleasant, but in our old 1970s house it was not enough to heat the entire home. So honestly, for me, it’s more of a novelty than a practical heating solution.

Opinions about fireplaces are quite divided. I find them cozy, and they definitely serve as an eye-catching feature in the living area. You also save some heating costs. However, what I also notice is that the initial investment cost is hardly justified... Overall, it ended up costing more than a decent mid-range car.

Well, we paid 15,000 for a stove with a chimney. A mid-range car costs around 40,000. There is definitely still a difference.

I would categorize it as a luxury item—you don't really need it, but I think it's nice.

Well, opinions differ on that... $40,000 is not mid-range to me. And when it comes to nearly new cars, who seriously buys a brand-new car?

For example, mine cost quite a bit more. I’m a car enthusiast, so I’m not representative of everyone, I know that… and picking up a brand-new car is an indescribable feeling.

Our Octavia was also new, but an EU reimport, so it was far from the 40,000 mark. Still, I would say it’s mid-range.
