Hello,

After 1.5 years, we have noticed yellowish/grey soot stains forming on the walls and corners near the chimney.

When we moved in, we did not paint with a white paint that includes a nicotine blocker. We now need to address this. Basically, the heat outlet/seating area is on the chimney. Is there possibly a solution, such as a soot filter or something similar?

Thank you

Hello,

that sounds pretty "tough." The stains are located above the fireplace. So it looks like you’ll have to use a different paint after all.

We had something similar in a corner of the living room in our old apartment.
No fireplace, no smoking household, just heating and occasional candles in the room.
Under the black corner were electronic devices (multi-media computer, monitor, AV receiver, etc.), and the heater was next to them.
I then assumed that the warm air from the heater and electronic devices rises (chimney effect) and causes small dust particles to settle on the wall and ceiling.

Ok, have you done anything about the deposits?

We will talk to the painter and the chimney sweep.
