Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

No one would find you there anyway.

How idyllic... a romantic film could be shot there.

The interior images perfectly match the exterior impression. Courage combined with good taste, well done!
In my opinion, the best design element is worthless if the user lacks the skill to integrate it into a harmonious overall concept.
Absolutely successful here!!!

Thank you for the compliments. Although it may seem like everything was well planned, many things for us developed gradually. For example, the facade color was supposed to be red. But once the house was built, we no longer saw anything red. Instead, we kept imagining gray... and this happened with almost everything.

I have read many construction blogs, and in each one, it seemed like the interior design and wall colors were completely decided even before submitting the building permit / planning permission. That made me feel somewhat disorganized...

By the way, I have also documented my building experiences in a blog, since I learned a lot about the process from blogs myself. The next post will be about installing an Ikea kitchen...

How is it with the wind? The plot is quite exposed. Does it ever get windy there? I would consider that when planning a hedge and design it as a windbreak as well.

The wind could be an issue. It’s generally quite windy, and the direction changes almost every hour...
I received a list of native shrubs from the local environmental office and plan to mainly choose bird-friendly plants. We’ll see; I’m not really focused on it much at the moment. I think we need to settle in first and then decide on the details. Overall, we want to keep it quite natural.

Wildflower meadow: for now, this is intended as a temporary measure since we will likely need to drive the excavator over the plot a few more times (for building a dry stone wall, setting granite pillars, paving, etc.).

Done!
Unfortunately, my camera isn’t good enough to capture all the details in the tile clearly...

The staircase looks amazing! Could you please share some details?

Where did you get the staircase from? How much more did it cost compared to the standard inclusion? We are currently dealing with our staircase and finding it very challenging. Would appreciate detailed information!

Open pit with red soil and barrier tape, trees in the background.

The beginning is done. The topsoil layer was slightly clayey, followed by only sand. Duration 2.5 days.

I’m glad you were able to get started; it looks great.

At the same time, you raise an interesting, philosophical question in my opinion. Doesn’t your post perhaps also belong in the thread I started, see below? I’m not sure, maybe someone can help.

Does an excavation pit belong more to the plot of land or to the house? Could it depend on the size of the excavation? And are there more important things in the world?
