Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Absolutely, this project is going to be really great. The foundation slab... I can hardly wait.

The chimney and wood-burning stove are the most unnecessary things we have in the house. We should have spent that money on a vacation or something instead...

We do have the chimney built in, but I’ve lost interest in the fireplace (which is still missing). I’m seriously wondering if I should skip building it altogether and install a tomato greenhouse with a ventilation system instead.

Let's wait and see. If the power goes out for weeks, at least you won’t freeze.

I love tile stoves and fireplaces and would have liked to have one that works more like a masonry heater, but with a glass door to watch the fire. Not for ecological reasons, but because it’s so nice to watch the fire on a gray winter evening and feel cozy. In terms of heat, it actually became a problem because it made our house too warm. For various reasons, I had to give up on it, which was tough for me. *sniff*

But still, many people here still have wood stoves; also heating systems that can be powered (at least in part) by wood.
