Maier GmbH18 Nov 2008 12:55Hello! My sister wants to install a swimming pool outdoors in the garden and is considering which material would be better for the surrounding ground: wood or stone. Is it a matter of personal preference, or is one option more practical than the other?

Maier GmbH18 Nov 2008 12:57Hello shell construction! I think stone is more practical. Wood always needs to be treated again, there is a high risk of mold, and it also tends to move more than stone, as far as I know.

Maier GmbH18 Nov 2008 12:58Isn't wood also more expensive than stone tiles? I agree that it is more complicated; in that case, tiles are probably the better choice... but I find wood more attractive. If you prefer it, maybe it's worth accepting the disadvantages?
It’s not accurate to say that wood is more expensive; it depends on the type of stone you choose... there are also very expensive stone slabs. It probably comes down to your sister’s personal preference. However, I also think it’s easier to work with stone than with wood.

I find wood more attractive, but you should make sure to use only treated wood. This prevents mold and feels more comfortable underfoot. However, the wood must always be able to dry, otherwise it will quickly become very slippery, which can be dangerous if you walk on it with wet feet.
