Hello,
I would like a small shed in my garden to store my furniture and equipment. Is it sufficient for it to be made of wood, or should it at least be partly built with masonry?
Thank you
HemdHello Hemd, I’m not an expert yet, but I can tell you two things for sure:
1. You ALWAYS need a solid, level foundation underneath, such as concrete; firstly, to prevent the shed from sinking, and secondly, to keep the inside from becoming muddy and damaging your shoes, stored equipment, and especially your furniture.
2. There is wood that rots easily and wood that can withstand wind and weather — especially since regular maintenance like repainting is necessary anyway.
There are also tool sheds made from metal, plastic, or glass.
I would choose the material based on the primary purpose of the shed: Will you mainly store garden tools, or do you want it to be more of a cozy tea pavilion, for example?
Depending on that, you select the material, shape, and size.
You should know from the start that it has to be weatherproof and remain so, so pay attention to quality when buying and ask what maintenance is needed to keep the weather resistance (care instructions and so on).
Unfortunately, I can’t say much more, as I have no personal experience, just what I’ve read so far. Hopefully, someone else will reply to you.
Best regards

HemdHi,
my neighbor built his out of reclaimed wood, but he poured a concrete foundation because otherwise the whole thing gets damp and starts to rot.
