Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

We also have the two power outlets plus two more on the wall where the island connects. So far, that has been sufficient. I had considered adding outlets on the open side of the island, but that wasn’t possible, and up to now, I haven’t missed them. I also wouldn’t want an outlet on the countertop if I could find another solution.

In my old kitchen, that was a good solution because I didn’t have outlets elsewhere, or the ones directly behind the stove on the wall were covered by the backsplash (outlets right behind a cooktop—I don’t know who came up with that idea. Has anyone ever had to clean splattered tomato sauce out of outlets???), so I think it’s not entirely unreasonable. But I would plan differently if I could.

Does the Bora Basic not have outlets on the control panel? I find those really practical! Because by the stove, I mainly need an outlet for the hand blender, and that really has to be right there by the cooktop.

My peninsula is too long for the side. Especially since I have an overhang of the countertop there to mount appliances like a pasta maker, grandma’s meat grinder, and so on.
I don’t find the appearance or practicality of the cooktop being at the front appealing. The peninsula is 1 meter deep (3.3 feet).
On both sides of the cooktop, we have outlets. They are accessible from everywhere and offer the shortest cable routes.

To flood them, you would really have to spill soup widely. Normal spills are not a problem.

Whether something looks good is a matter of personal taste. I find the edge trim of the cooktop much nicer than having it on the countertop surface. The power outlets are only visible when you are "in the kitchen"; from the other side, meaning the main living area, you usually don’t see them. (Assuming the cooktop is on the island.)
The “covers” in the countertop are visible from all sides. Our island is 1.2 meters deep (4 feet). The cooktop is not installed at the edge. I can’t think of any appliance with a cable that would be too short (the most common use case would be for a hand blender or similar).
As for appearance, as I said, it’s subjective. Beyond that, I haven’t found any disadvantages, rather advantages.

In any case, you should carefully consider in advance what your needs are for power outlets and plan accordingly.

The one from @Tarnari looks like the Bora XPure to me. We have that one as well. As standard, it doesn’t have any power outlets, but optionally they are available in the blind front panel.

Power outlets on the side panel of the kitchen island have the disadvantage that:
1. the distance to the cooktop is often too large
2. when plugging in a phone, radio, or similar device, you might accidentally catch the cord while walking by and pull the device off the island (this has happened to me with a phone).
This is clearly shown in the photo by @Nida35a.

I also find it more visually appealing.
Regarding water and splashes, no outlets should be located immediately next to the bathroom sink. However, these are usually standard and often no more than 20cm (8 inches) away.

this forum is always impressive... how people can discuss a power outlet on a kitchen island so much^^
