Hello

I also want to install a Siemens dishwasher in my Metod kitchen, so I visited the Siemens showroom in Vienna yesterday for advice.
While I gained some insights, I am not entirely sure if the information from the Siemens consultant is accurate, so I wanted to share all the details here and open the topic for discussion. It would be great if others could also share their experiences.

Yesterday, after I told the consultant the cabinet height (800mm (31.5 inches)) and plinth height (80mm (3 inches)), he showed me a table that indicates whether appliances with heights of 81.5cm (normal) or 86.5cm (XXL) will fit into a particular niche height combined with a certain plinth height.
At the bottom in the legend you can see:
- white fields at 86.5 or light gray fields at 81.5: dishwasher fits directly
- dark gray fields: dishwasher fits only with the Vario hinge
- black fields: dishwasher fits only with the Siemens folding hinge (special accessory).

The table shows a white field at a niche height of 880mm (35 inches) and a plinth height of 80mm (3 inches). According to this, an XXL appliance should fit directly without Vario hinge, meaning the 800mm (31.5 inches) tall front panel can be mounted directly onto the dishwasher door (no additional aids needed).
The consultant said this table applies to all Siemens dishwashers with 60cm (24 inches) width, including fully integrated and semi-integrated models.
However, he also mentioned that even a 5mm (0.2 inch) deviation in the niche height, depending on how the feet of the Metod kitchen are adjusted, can cause problems.

Unfortunately, I only checked the dimensional drawings of the XXL models (86.5cm (34 inches)) without the Vario hinge on the Siemens website after I got home.

What caught my attention is:
The drawing lists the front height as 705–775mm (27.8–30.5 inches), but the table shows 705–800mm (27.8–31.5 inches), which is a difference of 25mm (1 inch)!
The minimum plinth height in the drawing is 90mm (3.5 inches), but the table shows 80mm (3 inches) for the XXL appliance (column 880).
So I wonder how it is possible that the column "880" with a plinth height starting at 80mm is marked white, indicating that every XXL model should fit without a Vario hinge?
Has anyone in this forum already reported that installing an XXL dishwasher without the Vario hinge and without extra supports is not possible?
I will definitely call the consultant to ask about this and point out the inconsistencies between the table and the dimensional drawing.
I’ll share any further findings here.

Best regards

I took a closer look at the connecting pins in the link. It was reported that when connected with flat steel strips, the front panel bends forward when opened. Therefore, the offered connecting pins seem too thin to me. Maybe other options can be found. I only searched online.

At least you used the correct term for the search.
In my search, I only found kitchen studios etc. that offer pinning as a service, but never the pins themselves...

The bending issue likely arises because the front attachment on the dishwasher only starts about 21cm (8 inches) from the top. With a 20-20-40 division, the uppermost front panel only has the handle, but no attachment to the dishwasher.
And a flat steel strip alone probably cannot withstand the bending forces when pulling the handle.

But maybe it will work with pinning plus flat steel strips.
The pins have a spacer collar, which should act as support and thus prevent the steel strip from bending and the top front panel from tipping forward...
I used an entire front panel, but I think it should work if I don’t screw these plastic holders, which must be attached to the front, directly onto the front panel, but instead attach them to the front using “spacers” and somewhat longer screws. This increases the distance between the dishwasher door and the front panel by the thickness of the spacers, allowing a flat steel strip or similar to be mounted in between.
Regards,
Section Chief

That was exactly my plan.

But:
Hello,
That won’t work because the door will hit the dishwasher at the bottom when opened.
The door swings open at full width into the dishwasher. There is just enough space for that rubber mat. If you screw the door with a gap, that’s precisely the millimeters of clearance needed for the door to swing open properly.

Thanks, I was missing that info!
Unfortunately, the dishwasher manual doesn’t specify a maximum front panel thickness, only width and height are given.

But the mat apparently doesn’t work properly with IKEA anyway and always slips in front of the baseboard.
So I will probably leave it out.

I also have a 40-20-20 layout... I will frame each section with a full front. So, a dishwasher on the right and a corner cabinet on the left.

Hello everyone,
I specifically registered here because of this topic. First of all, a big thank you to everyone who shares their experiences with this issue.
I also want to install a non-IKEA dishwasher, but I’m leaning towards a Bosch in a standard size.

If I’m interpreting the drawing correctly, the gap between the front panel to be installed and the floor must be at least 90mm (3.5 inches).
Assuming I adjust the legs of my Metod base units to 90mm (3.5 inches) instead of 80mm (3 inches) and accept the resulting gap between the top of the dishwasher and the countertop,
then a 60x80cm (24x31.5 inches) front panel on the dishwasher should align flush at the bottom and top with the adjacent side fronts and be able to open fully without hitting the toe kick.
Am I making a mistake in my reasoning, or am I overlooking something here?
I would really appreciate your help, as the advice from salespeople in-store was not very helpful.

Best regards, Nico

Hello, this should work. There are no practical user reports on this yet. Since the upper basket of a dishwasher can quickly become too tight in height, I would always choose an XXL appliance if it fits into the kitchen.

Thank you for the quick response.

I will give it a try and report back when possible, but it may still take a few weeks until the kitchen is installed.

Hello,

we have Siemens dishwashers with a Vario hinge. I had the front panels milled by a carpenter and then connected using Väglig rails. See my photo gallery -
