Hello everyone,
things are moving forward for us now. After visiting quite a few kitchen outlets in the past, we finally decided on IKEA. Mainly because it’s affordable – secondly, because the kitchen salespeople were almost driving me crazy in the end (a $1000 discount because the sun is shining…). IKEA doesn’t offer any consultation at all… not great either, but still better than that.
We were somewhat fixed on the layout because of the windows… now we are even more set because of the utility connections… The screed is already in place.
The cabinet fronts are Hyttan and Bodbyn – we will buy the appliances separately.
We thought the waste bin should be a pull-out unit under the sink.
A quick note about the tall cabinet row (since it’s not that visible) on the left side of the plan:
60cm (24 inches) cabinet, oven, 60cm (24 inches) cabinet, refrigerator, small freezer.

We would love to hear your opinion. Are there any things we absolutely should change? Since neither of us really has a sense for design, we would appreciate any tips or comments on that as well.
Thanks and best regards

The dishwasher was originally planned to be next to the sink – we sometimes put items in the sink first and then into the dishwasher (when it’s running), and I would prefer not to have to walk through the kitchen for that. At the moment, bending down doesn’t bother us much – as I said, neither of us are very tall, so it’s not too low for us.

I would prefer the tall cabinet wall with a protruding wall cabinet. A kitchen machine still fits there, the coffee maker probably won't be placed there anyway because the sink is on the other side. Therefore, the coffee maker is ideally positioned on the peninsula against the wall, so it is easily accessible from the sink but also convenient from the breakfast table.

I’m short too! But let me tell you one thing... never again the dishwasher at the bottom!!! You just have to try it... It’s so wonderful. One thing I learned from my last kitchen planning... a base cabinet with a waste sorting system and a tall dishwasher are a must for everyone in the kitchen... It makes everyday life so much easier. Compared to that, I don’t find the oven placed higher that important.

I will discuss the dishwasher again with my better half.

Unfortunately, Ikea does not offer wall cabinets with a depth of 60cm (24 inches). There are top cabinets, but only in 60cm (24 inches) height, not 80cm (31 inches), which would look unbalanced... but I’ll try to experiment a bit more with the fronts—maybe I can still figure something out.
The coffee machine was planned for the corner near the cooktop, and the peninsula was supposed to hold the toaster (we’ll see—maybe both will end up there). It’s essential for these appliances to be close to the sink to avoid making too much of a mess.
The space under the tall cabinets is perfect for our flour mill and possibly a multifunction kitchen appliance or something similar.

However, with a suitable substructure, you can also hang regular wall cabinets flush with the tall cabinets. They shouldn’t be deeper up there anyway, since shorter people can’t reach them easily. Still, there should be an attachment cabinet for refrigerators that is 60 cm deep (24 inches). Basically, you could use any base cabinet carcass for this.

Elevated dishwashers require some DIY work at Ikea, as you first need to build a base frame, place the dishwasher on it, and then add additional cabinet compartments above. You can either use side panels on the left and right or tall cabinets on the sides to secure these compartments above the dishwasher. The dishwasher needs a proper niche so that it can be removed for repairs without having to dismantle the surrounding cabinets. Also, the dishwasher itself is already 60 cm wide (24 inches).

I like the last design best. Are glass fronts available for the wall cabinets? Or perhaps a wider wall cabinet (I can't think of the right term at the moment, the kind where you slide the doors) with two split fronts?

Something like that would lighten the look. However, I’m only familiar with the Pax wardrobes at IKEA, so I don’t know if they offer this kind of cabinet there.
