Hello
I also want to install a Siemens dishwasher in my Metod kitchen, so I visited the Siemens showroom in Vienna yesterday for advice.
While I gained some insights, I am not entirely sure if the information from the Siemens consultant is accurate, so I wanted to share all the details here and open the topic for discussion. It would be great if others could also share their experiences.
Yesterday, after I told the consultant the cabinet height (800mm (31.5 inches)) and plinth height (80mm (3 inches)), he showed me a table that indicates whether appliances with heights of 81.5cm (normal) or 86.5cm (XXL) will fit into a particular niche height combined with a certain plinth height.
At the bottom in the legend you can see:
- white fields at 86.5 or light gray fields at 81.5: dishwasher fits directly
- dark gray fields: dishwasher fits only with the Vario hinge
- black fields: dishwasher fits only with the Siemens folding hinge (special accessory).
The table shows a white field at a niche height of 880mm (35 inches) and a plinth height of 80mm (3 inches). According to this, an XXL appliance should fit directly without Vario hinge, meaning the 800mm (31.5 inches) tall front panel can be mounted directly onto the dishwasher door (no additional aids needed).
The consultant said this table applies to all Siemens dishwashers with 60cm (24 inches) width, including fully integrated and semi-integrated models.
However, he also mentioned that even a 5mm (0.2 inch) deviation in the niche height, depending on how the feet of the Metod kitchen are adjusted, can cause problems.
Unfortunately, I only checked the dimensional drawings of the XXL models (86.5cm (34 inches)) without the Vario hinge on the Siemens website after I got home.
What caught my attention is:
The drawing lists the front height as 705–775mm (27.8–30.5 inches), but the table shows 705–800mm (27.8–31.5 inches), which is a difference of 25mm (1 inch)!
The minimum plinth height in the drawing is 90mm (3.5 inches), but the table shows 80mm (3 inches) for the XXL appliance (column 880).
So I wonder how it is possible that the column "880" with a plinth height starting at 80mm is marked white, indicating that every XXL model should fit without a Vario hinge?
Has anyone in this forum already reported that installing an XXL dishwasher without the Vario hinge and without extra supports is not possible?
I will definitely call the consultant to ask about this and point out the inconsistencies between the table and the dimensional drawing.
I’ll share any further findings here.
Best regards

IKEA-Experte5 Mar 2015 15:16[I have the problem that the 3 parts at the bottom of the base get stuck when opening the door
ops:Just cut out a little bit of the base. With Faktum, you always had to do that. Alternatively, you could rout the fronts so that the connecting parts are recessed, but then you would also need to ensure the surface is properly sealed.

Hesse.MTK8 Mar 2015 19:13I now have the single-piece version. I chose it because of its stability. Even with flat steel bars, there is a tremendous amount of tension on it. At the top, the panel pulls away from the dishwasher, and at the bottom, it bends outward due to gravity.
Nevertheless, I am very satisfied with the single-piece design and the dishwasher itself! Great machine.

IKEA-Experte8 Mar 2015 21:31Good to know that flat bars are not so advisable after all. Pinning (or having it pinned) would probably be the best option if you want divided fronts.

Sektionschef7 Apr 2015 08:47I have now installed the Siemens dishwasher SX778D01TE in my Metod kitchen.
I mounted an 80cm (31.5 inches) single-panel front on the dishwasher door, so I cannot share any experience with split fronts.
However, there were still some issues:
1.) I installed a handle on the top of the front. As mentioned elsewhere, you actually have to countersink the heads of the handle screws on the inside; otherwise, they hit the top edge of the control panel when closing the dishwasher door. Since the handle screws are not countersunk, I had to enlarge the handle hole from the inside with a bigger drill bit.
2.) The dishwasher’s installation manual states that you can adjust the weight of the front, and thus the door’s ease of movement, with two screws at the bottom. However, once the 80cm (31.5 inches) front is mounted, these screws are no longer accessible as they are hidden behind the front panel. Since my door opens smoothly and stays in any position, I did not investigate this issue further.
3.) According to the installation manual, you have to attach a kind of rubber flap under the dishwasher. This flap is supposed to hang down and slide behind the plinth/baseboard when closing the door. In my case, the flap keeps coming loose and ends up hanging visibly in front of the baseboard. The reason is that when the dishwasher door is fully open, the flap is pulled too far out because it is actually too short for an 8cm (3.1 inches) high baseboard.
I’m not sure how to solve this problem yet. Either the rubber flap needs to be glued lower (though I don’t know if it can be detached again) or something must be attached to the baseboard to raise it slightly.
Has anyone else faced this problem and how did you solve it?

Leuchte_43017 Apr 2015 12:51Hello,
This rubber mat also serves to reduce noise. Since I faced the same problem as you, I omitted the rubber mat. To do this, you just need to detach the front panel again, lift it upwards to remove it, and peel off the adhesive film.
Whether with or without the rubber mat/noise insulation, I didn't notice any difference.
According to Siemens, installation is not mandatory.
