Hello
I also want to install a Siemens dishwasher in my Metod kitchen, so I visited the Siemens showroom in Vienna yesterday for advice.
While I gained some insights, I am not entirely sure if the information from the Siemens consultant is accurate, so I wanted to share all the details here and open the topic for discussion. It would be great if others could also share their experiences.
Yesterday, after I told the consultant the cabinet height (800mm (31.5 inches)) and plinth height (80mm (3 inches)), he showed me a table that indicates whether appliances with heights of 81.5cm (normal) or 86.5cm (XXL) will fit into a particular niche height combined with a certain plinth height.
At the bottom in the legend you can see:
- white fields at 86.5 or light gray fields at 81.5: dishwasher fits directly
- dark gray fields: dishwasher fits only with the Vario hinge
- black fields: dishwasher fits only with the Siemens folding hinge (special accessory).
The table shows a white field at a niche height of 880mm (35 inches) and a plinth height of 80mm (3 inches). According to this, an XXL appliance should fit directly without Vario hinge, meaning the 800mm (31.5 inches) tall front panel can be mounted directly onto the dishwasher door (no additional aids needed).
The consultant said this table applies to all Siemens dishwashers with 60cm (24 inches) width, including fully integrated and semi-integrated models.
However, he also mentioned that even a 5mm (0.2 inch) deviation in the niche height, depending on how the feet of the Metod kitchen are adjusted, can cause problems.
Unfortunately, I only checked the dimensional drawings of the XXL models (86.5cm (34 inches)) without the Vario hinge on the Siemens website after I got home.
What caught my attention is:
The drawing lists the front height as 705–775mm (27.8–30.5 inches), but the table shows 705–800mm (27.8–31.5 inches), which is a difference of 25mm (1 inch)!
The minimum plinth height in the drawing is 90mm (3.5 inches), but the table shows 80mm (3 inches) for the XXL appliance (column 880).
So I wonder how it is possible that the column "880" with a plinth height starting at 80mm is marked white, indicating that every XXL model should fit without a Vario hinge?
Has anyone in this forum already reported that installing an XXL dishwasher without the Vario hinge and without extra supports is not possible?
I will definitely call the consultant to ask about this and point out the inconsistencies between the table and the dimensional drawing.
I’ll share any further findings here.
Best regards

Sektionschef14 Feb 2015 18:45Jojoman, the price for the SX778D01TE is excellent!
I haven’t seen it cheaper anywhere than about 1000 euros.
May I ask where you bought it?

Sektionschef16 Feb 2015 20:58Thank you, Ikea expert!
In your link, there is an offer for the SX778D01TE at 860 euros including delivery to Austria, I haven’t seen this model this cheap anywhere else so far.
Actually, I am currently considering installing a semi-integrated XXL model in my Metod kitchen using the Stefan method.
I would like to have the SX56N596EU, which would cost about 630 euros and features a cutlery drawer and low water consumption.
If I place the appliance as low as possible (appliance height would then be 86.5cm (34 inches)), I would need, from top to bottom:
1.) A front strip about 2cm (1 inch) tall directly under the countertop, cut from a 10cm (4 inch) Bodbyn front
2.) Then comes the control panel of the dishwasher, which according to the dimension drawing is 114cm (45 inches) high
3.) Then another front strip about 6.6cm (3 inches) tall, also cut from the 10cm front
4.) Then a 20cm (8 inch) and below that a 40cm (16 inch) front (because next to it is a Domsjö sink cabinet with matching 20cm and 40cm fronts)
In total, that’s 2 + 114 + 6.6 + 20 + 40 = 80cm (31 inches)
The only problem is the minimum clearance from the bottom edge of the front to the floor of 90mm (3.5 inches) according to the dishwasher’s dimension drawing.
I have now measured my kitchen; the cabinet legs are currently adjusted so that the distance between the floor and the bottom edge of the front is exactly 85mm (3.3 inches). That means I would have a maximum difference of about 5mm (0.2 inches) between the bottom edge of the neighbouring cabinet front and the dishwasher front, which I can live with. I don’t want to raise the legs any higher because then I would need to raise all cabinets in the entire kitchen (U-shaped) as well.
I’ve also made a sketch here:
Does anyone see a problem why installing a semi-integrated XXL dishwasher using the Stefan method shouldn’t work?
Best regards

We ordered the dishwasher from Ellerbrock (found via Idealo). Today it was used for the first time... Everything worked perfectly. Unfortunately, I can’t say anything about the front yet, as we spontaneously decided to change it and the new front will only be delivered on 10.3. My husband wants to avoid the effort with the old front until then.

My husband wants to avoid the effort of dealing with the old front until then.Interesting appliance, I would be curious about it. Since my kitchen will be fully installed on February 27th, I’d have to order the machine now. Can you give a rough estimate of how likely it is to work? Could you perhaps take photos of the machine and the soft-close hinge?
Thank you
