Hello everyone,
I want to install the Bosch SMV68M90EU dishwasher in my Metod kitchen because it received good ratings from Stiftung Warentest. After reading quite a bit here, I currently have the following questions:
Is installation possible with a flip hinge for tall cabinet dimensions? Unfortunately, Bosch does not provide more information about this hinge. It seems to work, but the comments I’ve read make me doubt that.
According to Bosch, the height of the toe kick must be at least 9 cm (3.5 inches). How does this affect Metod cabinets with 8 cm (3 inches)? Is there any way to address this?
XXL or large-capacity dishwashers are often recommended here because the front panel can be attached directly. But when I look at Bosch models, even these fronts only go up to 775 mm (30.5 inches). Am I misunderstanding something?
This topic seems really complicated, and the more I read, the more unsure I become. I would really appreciate any help!

Thank you for your reply!
So far, we haven’t ordered the dishwasher nor installed the kitchen. I’m just wondering what exactly I need to order to make sure everything fits. You mentioned the Vario hinge. However, it seems this isn’t available for this dishwasher—or am I just bad at searching? The IKEA person told me to use those slide devices and even added them to the order. That should allow an 80 cm (31.5 inch) cabinet front to fit on an 86.5 cm (34 inch) dishwasher, right?
I definitely want the timeLight feature, and option A would also be nice. So, Miele is out of the question. Sigh …
Well, somehow it will be made to fit. Thanks anyway for your help.
Kind regards from

IKEA-Experte26 Oct 2015 19:14Your requests cannot be fulfilled at the moment. Timelight A is not available for Metod. Timelight A is available, or Infolight A and Timecontrol A, with Miele.
The SMV68M90EU is only available as is and does not fit well with METOD.

Küchen_Mäuschen29 Oct 2015 15:29Timelight A gibt esOh, good point, I need to do some more detailed research on that! Thanks.
(How often people really use the Eco mode is debatable. Realistically, probably not that often. So it might not matter whether it’s A or A*** ...)
SMV68M90EU is only available as it is, not a perfect fit for METOD.But with the “Stefan method” it could work ... I’m not too unhappy with that. The only question I have is: Will the TimeLight still work? I couldn’t find any clear information on where exactly it projects onto the floor from. It would be a bit annoying if lowering the dishwasher blocks the light!
I will report back on what I end up doing.

IKEA-Experte29 Oct 2015 17:49The SMV68M90EU has a standard height. Using the Stefan method is only possible if the entire kitchen base is raised. If I remember correctly, 9cm (3.5 inches) was mentioned here. The front would then protrude about 8cm (3 inches) at the top, and that much space would need to be added between the dishwasher and the countertop.

Küchen_Mäuschen30 Oct 2015 18:01The SMV68M90EU is standard height.Oh right, then I probably wasn’t referring to the SMV, but rather its tall XXL sibling. These confusing model names...
By the way, I must be extremely blind or my usually decent research skills failed me this time. In any case, I can’t find a single XXL dishwasher with timeLight and variable hinge—no matter the energy rating. So I will probably order one without that hinge and install it using the Stefan method.
As I said, I will keep you posted.

IKEA-Experte30 Oct 2015 18:45It’s probably more a matter of my memory than your research skills. I seem to recall someone here mentioning a device with a variable hinge and Timelight, saying that Timelight also works with the 80cm (31.5 inches) front.
But what is it actually needed for? In my case, the remaining time is constantly displayed, but I never intentionally look at it because the program has to run until it finishes anyway.
