prasar35Hello everyone, I am currently assembling my new kitchen using the IKEA Metod system and have chosen a Metod dishwasher for it. My question is how to best integrate this dishwasher into the kitchen setup. Specifically, I want to know which dimensions I need to follow, how to secure the dishwasher properly, and what to pay attention to when connecting the water supply and electrical power. Has anyone had practical experience with integrating the IKEA Metod dishwasher into their installation? I want to make sure everything is stable and that there are no issues during assembly or later use. Thanks in advance for your advice!
Hello prasar35,
I find your request very clearly formulated and precise, which of course makes it easier to provide assistance. There are a few important points to consider when integrating the IKEA Metod dishwasher:
- Dimensions: The standard height of the Metod cabinets is 80 cm (31.5 inches), which fits the dishwashers exactly (the IKEA dishwasher is also designed for this height). Make sure the dishwasher fits flush against the side walls; often a small gap of 1–2 mm (0.04–0.08 inches) is advisable.
- Fixing: Usually, the dishwasher is secured at the bottom of the base cabinet edge and with screws on the side profiles. IKEA dishwashers often have special mounting brackets that you can combine with the existing drill holes.
- Connections: Water and electrical connections should be installed beforehand. Make sure the water supply and drain hoses are easily accessible; IKEA recommends using the existing cutouts in the base cabinets.
If you like, I can also give you tips on what to watch out for when working with seals and dampers.

I would like to add that you should definitely check the depth of the dishwasher as well. The Metod dishwasher from IKEA usually has a depth of about 55 cm (22 inches) so that it can fit behind the front panel. It is important to install the water connections in a way that they do not press or get in the way, otherwise there will be problems when sliding the unit in.
I also recommend checking whether the front panel fits exactly before fastening it, as this is often where problems begin if the alignment is not set correctly.

The standard height of the Metod modules is 80cm (31.5 inches), which fits dishwashers perfectly (including the IKEA own brand, which is also designed for this height). It should be added here that depending on the type of flooring and countertop, there can be slight variations. This means the height may vary slightly in detail, and dishwashers might need to be properly adjusted using their adjustable feet.
Furthermore, the importance of correct alignment for the door opening mechanism is often underestimated. It may sound trivial, but it frequently leads to damage on the front panel or poor closing performance.
Therefore, anyone who strictly follows the dimensions should definitely be familiar with and make use of the adjustment options available on the model.

know and use the adjustment options of the model. It's also interesting how much IKEA products are sometimes designed for DIY; this can be both a curse and a blessing. Why not have a universal standardization that would make all these built-in appliances much easier to install? Instead, every assembly is its own puzzle to figure out first.
You could almost say the Metod range calls for a bit of engineering skill—or at least a good set of tools and patience.
I installed my Metod dishwasher two months ago and can say that, overall, it worked quite well once I took enough time. Important: Before installation, you should carefully sort all the accessories and follow the assembly instructions step by step.
- For me, the mounting clips proved to be a bit tricky, so be careful with their positioning.
- I was uncertain about routing the cables and hoses; I recommend double-checking the cutouts in the cabinet, as the hose can get pinched otherwise.
Don’t rely blindly on the instructions; sometimes your own adjustments help, especially if the kitchen is older or uneven.
