Ja_miHello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of maximizing storage capacity in my small kitchen with limited space. Specifically, I am working on installing Ikea Metod cabinets. Maybe you have some experience or tips on how to best configure the Metod series to gain as much storage as possible in a tight area? I am especially interested in how to combine the cabinets effectively, whether there are smart organization options for the internal drawers, and if there are any special tricks to keep in mind during assembly or planning. I look forward to hearing your experiences and practical recommendations!
Hello Ja_mi,
To maximize storage space in small kitchens using Ikea Metod, it’s best to carefully plan the use of space first. Use an accurate floor plan with measurements and consider how to make good use of corners or niches – corner cabinets or carousel units work well in these areas.
The Metod series offers many interior pull-out options such as tall drawers or adjustable shelves that you can customize. Especially in small kitchens, tall drawers for pots and pans are very useful, as they are more practical than several small compartments.
You should also consider tall cabinets to utilize vertical space. Combined with pantry pull-outs or a pull-out spice rack, these can store many items without making the space look cluttered.
When assembling, pay attention to stability, especially for larger, tall cabinets. The order of assembly is important — start with the larger units and always check with a level to ensure everything fits properly.
In general, I recommend also considering any existing panels or trims to close gaps and visually optimize the storage space. Good luck with your planning!

jordanvin3 Jan 2019 20:11Hey Ja_mi, I totally understand your challenge! Small kitchen but lots of storage space—it’s definitely possible! 😀
I had the same issue and simply combined different Metod cabinet modules with tall pull-out drawers—that way, I was able to store my pans, pots, and supplies perfectly. Important: make use of every corner and be sure to check out the Metod interior pull-outs for drawers and pantry shelves; they’re really practical.
Make a few sketches, don’t be afraid to experiment, and it will turn out great! I wish you lots of fun with the assembly—the result is totally worth it.

The Metod series offers many interior pull-out options, such as tall drawers or adjustable shelves that you can customize. That is an important point. My recommendation is to prioritize pull-out units over shelves when space is limited, as they provide easier access and make better use of the storage area.
Planning tall cabinets is also a good idea, where you can combine swivel and pull-out mechanisms to maximize storage capacity while maintaining good visibility.
When installing: precise measurements are crucial, especially to ensure cabinets fit perfectly in small kitchens without gaps. Also, use suitable fillers to create a seamless overall look.
