Hello everyone,
I want to install the Bosch SMV68M90EU dishwasher in my Metod kitchen because it received good ratings from Stiftung Warentest. After reading quite a bit here, I currently have the following questions:
Is installation possible with a flip hinge for tall cabinet dimensions? Unfortunately, Bosch does not provide more information about this hinge. It seems to work, but the comments I’ve read make me doubt that.
According to Bosch, the height of the toe kick must be at least 9 cm (3.5 inches). How does this affect Metod cabinets with 8 cm (3 inches)? Is there any way to address this?
XXL or large-capacity dishwashers are often recommended here because the front panel can be attached directly. But when I look at Bosch models, even these fronts only go up to 775 mm (30.5 inches). Am I misunderstanding something?
This topic seems really complicated, and the more I read, the more unsure I become. I would really appreciate any help!

If you buy a new one, get a Bosch with the real hinges.
I spent two weeks researching, also because of the good reviews for the device you mentioned.
I can only say that the one we have now is also great. Really. And no hassle with fittings, just a straightforward installation.
For me, it wasn’t worth the stress of having the installer say it doesn’t work with the newly purchased dishwasher...

IKEA-Experte13 Aug 2015 14:53Knowing that METOD is designed for a dishwasher 81.5 cm (32 inches) high could already be considered careless. Also consider the advantages of an XXL appliance. You can load it much better because larger items fit in the upper rack than usual. Especially with a cutlery drawer, the space above quickly becomes too tight in terms of height.

küchenprofi17 Aug 2015 18:07With a front panel height of 80cm (31.5 inches), I need a cabinet height of about 90cm (35.4 inches)... then any dishwasher will fit.
The solution is obvious... visit the next kitchen showroom or furniture store and look at, for example, a Schüller or Next kitchen... front panel height 78cm (30.7 inches)...
Any dishwasher fits there... guaranteed...
Then install the kitchen 2cm (0.8 inch) higher... no more problems...
The adjustable hinge has advantages and disadvantages...
The front panel slides on felt... up and down... movable... over time this is certainly a disadvantage compared to fixed screwed fronts...
The fittings have also been replaced in the meantime...?? (plastic holder)
On Saturday I helped a friend install an IKEA kitchen... respect to everyone who assembles it themselves... I couldn’t do it...
What is also important regarding the Vario front:
Two-part front with connecting fitting... doesn’t work at all (because of the look)
Handles that appear continuous (screwed from the back)
For those, you need a dishwasher with a touch-to-open function... without handles
A request to all IKEA pros here...
Tell the newcomers how high they need to set the base cabinet so that the dishwasher fits...
I’m currently on vacation... this post was out of boredom... otherwise I would have measured everything myself at work tomorrow and published it... happy to answer questions... area around Nuremberg

Küchen_Mäuschen25 Oct 2015 09:46Hello,
I’m new here and have exactly the same problem as TA. I want to install the Bosch SMV/SBV68M90EU in an 80cm (31.5 inches) METOD kitchen and I’m quite confused about how to do this safely and most elegantly.
So far, I’ve only understood that for an 80cm (31.5 inches) cabinet, the larger dishwasher fits better. Fine. But what do I do with the front panel so that the door opens properly?
@woodguy: You said TA should buy a Bosch with “those” hinges – yes, which ones exactly? The Vario hinges? That’s what the IKEA expert also recommends. But if I’m seeing this correctly, aren’t those hinges unavailable for this dishwasher?
Sorry if I’m sounding a bit slow here, but I’m really stuck and can’t figure it out. Could someone please give me a little push? That would be really kind!
Best regards from

IKEA-Experte25 Oct 2015 11:06Hello, if you already have the machine, you cannot retrofit a variable hinge. If it is new and unused, try to exchange it. If that is not possible, is the kitchen already installed?
