Hi dear community,

My girlfriend and I will soon be moving into a new apartment. Our current kitchen will stay in the apartment or alternatively be sold on eBay.

Since the prices for kitchens we like at various kitchen studios or furniture stores are simply too expensive, we will definitely buy the new kitchen from IKEA. We just can’t justify paying over €10,000 (about $11,000) just for the cabinets.

We have set a budget of around €7,000 (about $7,700), including appliances.

We have already purchased a Siemens oven with pyrolysis cleaning, a built-in Neff induction cooktop, and a freestanding Siemens stainless steel refrigerator. We will also get a dishwasher and a range hood, both from Siemens. Altogether, this brings us to about €3,100–3,300 (around $3,400–3,600). This leaves us with approximately €3,500 (about $3,850) for the cabinets. Initial planning suggests this should work.

First, I would like some advice about the cabinet fronts.

We generally like the country style but want to keep it somewhat modern, for example with the handles (Örrnas or VÄRDE). We like Bodbyn, Kroktorp, GRYTNÄS, and Laxarby.

Are there any general pros and cons of the mentioned fronts? Laxarby, for example, is significantly more expensive than GRYTNÄS. My girlfriend especially likes Bodbyn in gray, but I would prefer something lighter.

For the countertop, we want the 2.8cm (1.1 inch) oak wood slab, which matches our dining table perfectly.

Secondly, about the installation.

There are no stupid questions, but… is the assembly difficult? I would consider myself and my dad fairly handy.

The kitchen will basically be a single line along a wall about 4.00–4.50m (13–15 feet) long; I still need to measure exactly. I would like a small L-shape, but on the back wall this is hardly possible because the radiator starts after about 1.00m (3.3 feet). Since the kitchen is also open on the other side, I wanted to create a subtle L there. However, the online planner complains because this L-piece is not attached to the wall. Does it have to be placed against a wall… or how does it work?

For the fully integrated dishwasher, you definitely need that rail — the name escapes me!

The oven will go in a tall cabinet; is there anything specific to keep in mind here?

For the backsplash, I would like to use aluminum panels with printed images. These are available on various websites in 2mm (0.08 inch) thickness and should fit into the IKEA rails, right?

Any general advice and tips are very welcome.

To give a better idea, I can also post the floor plan or design as a picture.

A wonderful good morning,

we are currently planning our kitchen through a Swedish house company.
We want it to be high-gloss white.

However, Ikea is not really popular here. Our experiences with them, on the other hand, are completely positive.
To be honest, I have to admit, we have never had furniture from a specialized kitchen manufacturer before.

Why we chose Ikea
25-year warranty on the better Maximera drawers
25-year warranty on the fronts
If something needs to be changed or you have other wishes, just one trip to the showroom, put it in the shopping cart, pay, and it can be installed the same day
Also, the lifetime return policy alone...

My knight in shining armor is a highly skilled electrician, and since we have installed Ikea kitchens in our private rental properties as well (for craftsmen, assembly workers, tourists, athletes, retirees), my husband is very impressed with the construction. To him, it seems stable and logical.
The drawer system (at least the Maximera one, I don’t know about the others) is from Blum—very good quality!

Regarding your budget, of course it depends on which cabinets you choose...
Hidden drawers?
Large drawers?
Cabinet width?

For the solid wood countertop, you should consider a delivery time of 6–8 weeks (6-8 weeks); in the meantime, you will have to manage with a standard countertop.
Also, keep in mind the prices for the sink, faucet, and related accessories.

As for selecting the cabinets in general, I recommend planning your storage space. This will make choosing drawer sizes (height, quantity) much easier later on.
It also helps prevent buying mistakes... okay, you can return those to Ikea, but it’s still energy-consuming.

Have fun planning, Hochglanz

Hello
If you use the online planner and go to File -> Email to send yourself an email, you will receive a link to your design in the email. You could post that link here, so everyone in the forum can take a look and maybe offer opinions or suggestions. Alternatively, you can also take screenshots in the planner and post them here.
Download the Alno kitchen planner (freeware) and enter your design there, save it, and post it. This way, designs will be created for you that you can then view in 3D directly in the planner. It’s not Ikea-specific but rather a general kitchen planning tool.

Regarding dishwashers, there is a lot to read here in the forum.
If you haven’t bought the dishwasher yet, be sure to choose an XXL model with a variable hinge, as only this can be installed without issues. Other models can work too, but installation might turn into a makeshift solution.
Best regards

I have already read about the dishwasher issue; it will probably be the Siemens SX760P030 EU. It is XXL and features the Vario hinge. I would have preferred the Zeolith drying technology and a cutlery tray instead of the basket, but almost 1000€ is simply too expensive for a dishwasher, or rather, I don’t think the extra features are worth the price.

I will post some pictures later.

A wonderful good morning,

I just have the catalog in hand... Oak countertop up to a depth of 63.5 cm (25 inches) at a price of 160 euros per linear meter..
For an L-shape.. plus connectors
Plus cutouts for cooktop and sink
Possibly flush-mounted installation of the selected sink

The budget of 3,500 euros might be a bit tight here.

Kind regards, Hochglanz

That's correct, but only for a thickness of 3.8cm (1.5 inches). For a thickness of 2.8cm (1.1 inches), 2.xx m cost around €120 or so. The Neff induction cooktop (TT5455) also requires "only" or at least a thickness of 20mm (0.8 inches), if no oven is installed underneath.
