Since the kitchen island is within reach from the bench at the dining table, the toaster is perfectly placed there—we don’t want to have to get up just to make toast. For coffee, we use a non-automatic machine that’s a bit messy but makes wonderful coffee. Of course, Barbara can’t be missing behind the splash guard of the cooktop, and a few cooking oils are also ready and waiting. It makes for a somewhat cluttered but practical corner. Snapshot from the bench:

Oh, and boiling water comes from our Grohe Red – but I think I’ll choose a Quooker “next time” because the Red has had to be reset multiple times (power switched off and on) and has already required customer service.

Kitchen area... somehow there are tons of spotlights everywhere. centered above the walkways and the island.

No, not during everyday use. And if something is fried very hot, a baking tray is simply placed upright as a shield. The Falmec hood also works exceptionally well.
