Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

@annab377 because ekey works very well and is a market leader. I have known the system for 12 years. Depending on the scanner, it also uses secure RFID (desfire ev1 or 2). So far, it has not been hacked. Updates are available as well. It is more secure than a key. The system operates independently. Our regular network can only be accessed from outside via VPN. I agree that an absolute beginner should not install it themselves. However, they tend to install the standalone version. Relays, controllers, etc., are safely installed inside the house. The great thing is that motorized locks ensure the door is always locked.

What makes eKey so special?
Right now, I’m leaning against a fingerprint sensor. You know every IT system has potential vulnerabilities. The question is whether your installed device receives regular firmware updates or similar. Also, fingerprint scanners often have problems in cold weather, with dirty fingers, or similar conditions (which I’ve seen in other homes where people had to swipe 2 to 4 times).

Even a “normal” (front) door has weaknesses 🙂 I was just told that there might be issues on the sunny side. It’s obvious that such sensors may not work reliably with dirty fingers. Maybe you should ask yourself if you use fingerprint scanning on your phone. It should work just as reliably at the front door.

eKey apparently has a good reputation. I haven’t looked into it in detail yet.

Regarding the backup kitchen: this is not uncommon for people who see their kitchen as a showroom and don’t want appliances cluttering the space so that it’s always ready for a catalog photo? But you live in the house, and especially in the kitchen, so everyday-use appliances should be there 🙄

Well, our “backup kitchen” in the garage is used quite rarely. Mostly when something needs to roast for a long time or when we have a garage party. Otherwise, there’s definitely life in our main kitchen 🙂

I’m bringing up my question about the front door from Rodenberg to Steffi33 again...

Yes, that’s right.

Really? 🙂 Wow... what a coincidence. We are currently looking for a new front door and have received catalogs from Rodenberg, among others, from our trusted carpenter. It’s funny how you can recognize other people’s front doors... 🙂

How satisfied are you with it? We are leaning towards a similar door design but with only three panels, since our interior doors (see above) have that style. Nothing is decided yet though. Do you have any extras? Like a fingerprint scanner, for example?

Good morning… the security features will remain a secret ;-). We chose Carree for the glass insert. Otherwise, we are satisfied… it’s just a normal door and does its job. I think the lock is a bit close to the wall structure… but I guess it has to be that way. Visually, we matched it to the windows… that’s where the squares come from.

@annab377
There are roses growing on it… extremely lush… they’re already blocking the path. So something new will be added… let’s see what.

We built into an old gap… a townhouse would have been a mistake there… ;-)

Ok, thanks!
I now see fingerprint recognition, etc., not as a security feature but as a convenience feature 🙂 A security feature for me would be RC2 or higher.
Is the size of the squares fixed, or can it be varied within certain limits?

I don’t think so... but maybe as a special request.
