Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Oops—was the construction the reason for the separation? Sorry to hear that.

I also don’t have a spice rack by the stove (where it gets greasy if you cook a lot), ...instead!
I just checked ... our spice rack is fine and we cook every day (see picture)! 🙂

Interesting 🙂

That looks nice. Google backup kitchen. There’s an article in FAZ from 2014 😉
Then it’s in our garage. As mentioned, we also have a cooktop and oven there, which we use when cooking takes longer, produces strong smells, or if you just need two ovens. The toaster stays upstairs though!! 🙂
Also convenient for a garage party...

Open kitchen shelf with spice jars on two glass shelves, yellow olive painting in the background.

Yes, but not the only one.
Well, not everything goes well in life, so you just have to keep looking forward.
However, the house turns into a nightmare for someone new... you hear some shocking stories...

I wouldn’t even be able to fit a fraction of my spices in there... even if I only wanted to put the ones I use more often.

But honestly: with those glass shelves, grease will build up immediately.

We live quite minimalistically... less is more! Back when I was single, I only had salt, sugar, and pepper. But that’s probably not a good reference point.
Besides, there’s definitely a “backup shelf” somewhere in the background (I guess in the apothecary cabinet opposite). It’s clear that the kitchen isn’t really my domain...

But honestly: those glass shelves, don’t they immediately get a greasy film on them?

Honestly: I can’t say I’ve noticed that...

We would—or rather, she would—definitely plan a new kitchen differently. We inherited this one, but we’re managing quite well with it.

I find it terrible ...

I think I understand it, but to me it looks like many small unidentified flying objects gathering for an attack in the photo. And the smoke detector is the mothership. Somehow funny, not everyone has that. ;-)
