If we find ourselves missing a railing, there is still the option to install one on the wall. Basically, my wife and I use the stairs. Small children are not expected at the moment. The staircase is 1 meter wide (about 3 feet), so adding a railing later would always be feasible. Or a lift in 25 years, or something else.....
