Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Since @matte1987 has once again asked for photos from our construction site

Basement construction site with wooden stairs: bags, boxes, and tools on the steps and to the right.

White fireplace with glass front in a bright living room under renovation, wooden floor.

Bright interior hallway with gray tiles, white walls, stairs on the right, door on the left, ceiling lights.

Wooden staircase indoors, white wall on the left, gray floor, dark gloves on a step.

I always think windows placed only at the very top look a bit odd from the outside. But from the inside, I find it really unattractive. Does it improve once you have furniture in front of them? I don’t think I could get used to it.
What was your reason for this design? More wall space for furniture or to prevent people from looking in? Or were there other reasons?

I think it was because of the height difference with the neighbor?

The height difference wouldn’t be a problem; at first, we had planned regular windows as well. It was mainly about privacy protection because my parents and grandmother have their houses directly behind us. Besides, we quite like these long, narrow windows. We also have one in the kitchen (see the kitchen picture thread). And, by the way, it’s more practical for the furniture in the living room too.

Ah, okay, that makes sense—things like that do exist. As someone from a flat region, I hadn’t considered that at all.

PS: I meant the difference in elevation.

How different tastes can be.
Looking at the wall, I would think I was standing in a basement.
