Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Today we had the screed installed. I feel sorry for the worker who spent the entire day shoveling the huge pile of sand into the machine.

Freshly smoothed concrete floor in empty interior; white walls, door frames, orange marking.

Bought 90 boxes today on eBay Classifieds.

Looking forward to it...

Several large moving boxes stacked in a storage room.

Which product did you use to treat the wood?

We first applied a Southwest UV blocker, then a Southwest wax glaze in white lime. This was recommended to us.

The uneven appearance: as mentioned, it really depends on the lighting. Our ceiling is made of brushed spruce. There are areas where the wood is relatively smooth, and others where the grain stands out more. When you look at a section with a stronger grain next to a smoother section at an angle under certain lighting, the grainy part looks whiter. If you look straight on at a 90° angle to the ceiling, you see that it’s actually even. This is fine for us. Wood is naturally not as uniform as a regular wall—this is something you have to accept when choosing wood; otherwise, you should opt for a smooth ceiling. Even though spruce darkens without a glaze, there will always be variations. We chose this type of glaze because we wanted it a bit lighter than natural wood but still wanted to keep the texture and vitality of the wood. The glaze works very well for that. If you want it completely uniform, you should choose something else.

We also have two rectangular spots where supports stood, and unfortunately the wood around them has already darkened (my husband didn’t want to believe me when I wanted to do it as soon as possible—he thought the wood wouldn’t darken so fast—but it does!). This will even out over time (the UV blocker glaze for interior use is not quite as effective as the exterior version—but it is approved for use indoors).

You can always use a move as a good opportunity to sort things out…
