Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Something must be wrong, or maybe only apprentices and interns were working on it.

Some contractors apparently leave the bricklaying to what Karsten nicely calls the "screed Ahmeds."

Yes, that makes sense or something like that... That also explains the 7 weeks.

It’s less about the brick cladding and more about the pointing – the companies here don’t want to do that and usually subcontract it.

Regarding the timing: observe the workers when the supervisor is not around and when he is. The difference in pace is like driving within city limits versus on the highway. It wouldn’t make sense to work at the same speed without supervision because then the supervisor would know how fast it could be done, and they would have to keep pushing. So far, it’s taken six weeks with a short break to complete 180 square meters (about 1,940 square feet) with two people. They should be finished in two days. Gable ends take a long time because there’s a lot of cutting involved. Just the triangular window held them up for almost a whole day.

And I wouldn’t want to miss roller shutters; I grew up with them and have now gone 3.5 years without, and their absence is very noticeable. For me, they’re a luxury of equal value to a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery.

Finally, finally a step forward! Except for the large window areas, all windows are now installed, and the scaffolding was taken down this morning:

Wooden house under construction with cladding, terrace on supports; construction workers wearing helmets in the foreground.

Starting from the beginning: the large sliding windows will get their glass tomorrow, the frames are already installed (not visible here, behind the plastic sheeting).

The back side only has smaller windows, so everything is already finished here:

Two-story house with horizontal wooden cladding, large windows and tree in the foreground

Inside it is finally bright again, even though the large windows are still missing. Here are the kitchen windows:

Construction site room with OSB walls, wide window, door with glass outside, green hoses and building parts.

And in the basement, natural wood inside, like the walls:

Interior made of wood panels; window frame with yellow tape, outside visible trench, gravel and cart

Ah, we have been waiting a long time for this!

Tomorrow the large windows will also get their glass in the frames. Then it will be really bright!
