Hello,
we are currently looking into the windows for our planned house. The police recommend installing RC2-rated windows for security, but these seem to be quite expensive. Have you installed such windows, and what additional costs should one expect for a window or patio door? For example, if only the patio door is made with RC2 security, will the glass panes look different compared to the other windows? How did you handle this?
Best regards
Sabine

R.Hotzenplotz17 Jun 2018 08:56We did not receive a full RC 2 security level but rather a security package with locking pins, laminated safety glass, etc. Additionally, we ordered some windows with sound insulation class III, while the others are class II. We would now like to verify whether all the windows are exactly as specified. The site manager said that to do this, we need to look at the inner frame between the glass panes where markings are printed. The problem is that this frame is finished in anthracite, making it impossible to see anything there. How can we check, for example, which windows actually have sound insulation class III or only class II installed?
Soundproofing is achieved by using thicker glass, sometimes combined with films. The glass unit would need to be thicker, and since it’s difficult to measure this precisely, just try to compare it visually.
EDIT: SK2 is, in my opinion, basically the standard. You’re writing as if that was an upgrade? The step up to SK3 isn’t necessarily much either—I’ve just seen configurations where the glass package is only 2mm (0.08 inches) thicker. It will probably be hard to tell just by looking.

I know your post is a bit old. I wanted to ask which windows you ultimately chose? We are building a house now and have also been advised to install RC2 windows.
I would appreciate a reply.
