Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

@manyyuu:
I don’t see any waterproofing membrane extending from your floor-to-ceiling windows and the horizontal drainage layer. Make sure to check if this is done properly; otherwise, you might end up with damp floors.

Since my uncle, who has worked as a self-employed master carpenter for 30 years, is installing the windows and is very precise, I’m not worried so far. Where should this membrane extend—only at the bottom or all around? I have no experience and don’t know how our windows will be sealed (maybe there are different options)...

Private, as are the floor plans.

Installed, but also private. After all, we are here in the home building forum and not next door with the interior designers.

Oh no!

Work continued here last week as well. Yesterday the reinforcements were laid, and today concrete was poured for the slab.

Very impressive.

On the other hand, I also find it unrealistic to expect the entire outdoor area to look like something out of a landscape design magazine immediately after the house is completed.

I especially find it unfortunate when people pay for a "checkbook garden," instead of taking pride in creating their own (meaning self-made) view.

You yourself already gave a reason why you could include a privacy screen within a fence...

Me? — Never. I wouldn’t turn a fence into an eyesore just to avoid an unpleasant view. It’s a case of choosing between the lesser of two evils. I only hinted that it’s possible to want to protect your view, not just to keep others from seeing in. Even with the worst neighbors—those with the most unpleasant faces and the worst sense of color—I wouldn’t surround my garden like a prison yard.

Because without pictures of the other side, the house just doesn’t seem to fit on the lot to me.

I don’t understand this comment—you’re not that new here or rare of a visitor that you wouldn’t have seen the other pictures of this house yet, are you?
