Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

May I ask two quick questions:
What kind of room is this where you have so many outlets right next to each other?

What are the two outlets with the red and black connectors? The three to the left look like six Ethernet ports, right?

Of course you may.
This is the audio/video wall. Power outlets for the TV, telecom receiver, AV receiver, Apple TV, Blu-Ray player, plus some spare outlets. In the corners, not visible in the photo, there are also switched sockets for lighting. The CAT outlets are for the devices, and the red/black terminals are for the 5.1 speakers.

Ah, so the red/black connectors are for the sound system.

But doesn’t only the smart TV or the telecom set-top box need a LAN connection? Wouldn’t two be enough then?

I’m not asking provocatively, just because I’m building/planning myself 😉

These will be the new main ceiling lights in the living/dining area, with two at 1200mm (47 inches) and one at 1000mm (39 inches) in diameter.
Yesterday, the first layer of filler was applied; I think three coats will be necessary before wallpapering.
I’m also having a new lowboard and sideboard custom built, and they will feature LED strips underneath for indirect lighting.

Thanks for the update. Will you be posting a photo once everything is finished?
At the moment, I feel the fixtures make the room look rather small.

Better to have more than to realize later that something’s missing 😉 I planned for 4 outlets behind the TV as well. Two lower down near the power sockets, and then two more plus two power outlets higher up behind the TV. Also installed a conduit to connect top and bottom.

In hindsight, the outlets up there were useless because my TV with One Connect only has a thin cable for power and connections, and everything actually plugs in at the bottom. Now I’m short on power and Ethernet outlets again (for mesh router, TV, Apple TV, and eventually the TV box).

I also can’t use the outlets behind the TV because it’s mounted with a no-gap wall bracket. AND those useless outlets forced me to mount the TV higher than I wanted...

Plans are great until they change or you buy the “wrong” TV... At least it looks good 😉

I have never seen so many outlets on one wall, respect! 😀

I usually prefer using power strips, they only cost about 5 euros, have an on/off switch, and are more flexible. However, we found that we also want some single sockets in multiple locations. Well, that’s how it is, there’s always a solution B 🙂

Ah, the black/red cables are fine for audio.

Yes and no. I’m a bit of a tech enthusiast. I want all devices to output their native sound. That’s only possible through an A/V receiver. A nice side effect is that only one HDMI cable goes to the TV. My A/V receiver basically acts like the One Connect Box from Samsung. And thanks to a sideboard by Munari, everything is hidden behind white glass and can be operated easily but invisibly with a single Logitech Harmony remote.
