Hello,

On December 16, the main electrical connection to our house and, at the same time, the telecom connection were installed. The electrical company now needs to report the completion of their work to the telecom provider. On December 23, I inquired when this would happen. Today, I was informed that it will not be done until the end of the month because the responsible colleague is on vacation. Do I have to accept this? Am I forced to wait, or can I speed up the process? I find this quite frustrating, especially since we plan to move in on January 24.

Best regards

Who is responsible for what exactly? Who submits the completion notification?

In our case, the energy provider, who manages gas and electricity, coordinated with the water utility and telecom company. All four services were connected just before Christmas. We received the invoices for electricity, gas, and water quite some time ago. All three meters were installed this month, and everything can be put into operation. But nothing has been received from the telecom company.

Does this mean a completion notification is missing? And who is supposed to submit it? I would like to have phone and Internet service by April.

The telecommunications provider or their subcontractor installs the APL (main distribution frame) in your house. Once this is done, they must submit a completion report to the provider—otherwise, nothing will happen. In our case, this was either overlooked or done very late.

As soon as the report reaches the provider, it is entered into their system. This takes additional time. Only then can your connection actually be activated.

Call the provider and ask if the completion report has already been received.

We received a letter about the completion. I think it was a few weeks after the network provider installed the telephone connection. They are much slower there compared to other utility providers.

Shortly afterwards, we got a call asking if we already had a plan. The final installation can be done within 3 weeks, according to the information. However, we will only order it at the beginning of February, so I can’t say anything about it yet.

Thank you all. The next topic is which provider to choose for the plan. I actually want to order the first plan directly from Telekom to be on the safe side. If something underground is damaged and another provider is involved – good luck with that. Then there’s the question of whether it makes sense to choose a plan that entitles you to a credit of 400 EUR.

I hardly think you’ll find a better rate than Telekom when you factor in the 400€ (approximately 440 USD) credit. That’s quite a substantial amount. In my opinion, it makes sense to take that offer and reconsider your options after two years. Financially, everything else would be pointless, and I also believe switching providers while keeping the existing line is easier than switching to a completely different provider right away.

I agree about using the existing wiring. The problem is that I have to buy some stuff I don’t want just to reach around 400 EUR (Magenta TV equipment).
